Kyle Jones Readies for
Unique 2003 Schedule Leading Up to 2004 ASA Rookie of the Year Run
Pendleton,
IN (March 13, 2003) -
Kyle Jones, one of the brightest, young
talents in the Midwest will showcase his abilities during the 2003
season with a tentative schedule in the ASA Racing Series, CRA/Sunoco
Super Series, and Main Event Racing Series. Jones will drive the cars
prepared by Jeff Miller and his team, J-VEE-M Racing, in their Columbus
(OH) shop.
“This is a great
opportunity for me,” said the 18 year-old High School Senior. “I've been
running Modifieds on a shoe-string budget recently, hoping to get an
opportunity like this. Jeff Miller has been keeping an eye on my career
and we raced together a little last year. He and his partners have
really made the commitment to help further my career. It's going to be a
big challenge to run the different series and different cars, but I
really feel we can learn a lot this year to take into our full ASA
season in 2004.”
The Springfield (OH)
native may only have 18 years of life experience under his belt, but his
list of racing accomplishments is already impressive. His resume
includes an Eastern Grand Championship and Dirt Grand Championship in
Quarter Midgets (1997-2000), six wins at three tracks as a rookie in
Modified racing (2001), seven wins and 10 fast times in Modifieds (2002)
and four wins and three fast times as a rookie Late Model competitor
(2002).
J-VEE-M Racing has a long
history of success and is looking to continue that with their new
driver. Owners Jeff Miller, Ed Maddy, and Nelson Kohman have put
together a great team that will feature Howe Chassis in both series, and
T&L engines in the CRA/Sunoco Super Series. Miller, whose credentials
include over ten years of crew chief experience in ASA and Winston
Racing Championship in 1998, will again serve as the crew chief and team
manager. Through the years, drivers including Gary St. Amant, Tom
Harrington, Mike Stacy and Robbie Pyle and have all had success in cars
prepared by Jeff Miller and his team.
Miller
is genuinely excited about the upcoming racing season, and more than
likely the reason is personal. “I've known Kyle since he was nine years
old,” Miller said. “Since then I've served as a sponsor and mentor in
his racing. Now I'm going to get to work with him in our cars, and
hopefully prepare him for greater successes down the road. My partners
have really stepped to the plate to make an impact on this young man's
life, and I truly feel were getting to be a part of something special.”
The combination schedule
for the team tentatively features six ASA events, five CRA/Sunoco Super
Series events, and three Main Event Racing Series shows. When the
schedule allows, the team will also compete in weekly Late Model racing
at Columbus Motor Speedway. “It's a unique schedule for sure, but I feel
it will truly set us up for our main goal, to run the full schedule with
ASA in 2004 and win the Rookie of the Year Award.”
On the sponsorship side,
the team is still seeking interested parties. “We've got a great
opportunity for a sponsor to get involved, and be a part of Kyle's
career as he moves toward the highest levels of racing in the future.
For the right sponsor, it would be like hitching a ride on a rising
star.” Interested parties can contact the team at 614-736-9191
The team will make their
debut in the CRA/Sunoco Super Series competition on May 10, at Mansfield
Speedway in Ohio. The following week they will make their ASA debut at
Toledo Speedway.
