Challenging 2003
Schedule Released
Salem, Ind. (January
18, 2003) -
After months of work and anticipation, the CRA Sunoco
Super Series 2003 race schedule has finally been released. The series is
currently scheduled to have nineteen total events in 2003. The nineteen
shows will consist of seventeen series point's races and two non-points
races beginning with the season opener on April 19th at Anderson
Speedway.
The Sunoco Super Series
will visit five new racetracks in 2003 beginning on May 10th
when the series will travel east to Mansfield Motorsports Speedway for a
100-lap event. The series will make a first time visit to Mt. Lawn
Speedway for a Memorial Day 150-lap event on May 26th,
more information on the that event at Mt. Lawn Speedway located in New
Castle, Indiana, will be released soon.
On June 14th
the Sunoco Super Series will visit the famed Michigan half-mile oval at
Berlin Raceway, an event that will pit the Sunoco Super Series regulars
against some of the best local late model drivers in the country. On
Saturday, July 5th the series will have another
first time appearance at Thunder Valley Speedway in Jones, Michigan.
This track was formally known as M-40 Motorports Arena until the new
owners renamed the track starting this season. This event will be the
second leg in a 4th of July weekend doubleheader
with Angola Motor Speedway's event on July 4th.
Fairgrounds Speedway at
Nashville will be the final new track on the 2003 schedule. The Sunoco
Super Series will have a 200 lap Co-sanctioned event with the Southern
All-Stars at this historic .596-mile racetrack. This event will be a
part of the American Speed Association (ASA) Championship weekend at
Nashville. ASA will have their 300-lap season ending event on Sunday,
October 19th.This will be the first ever
Co-sanctioned event the Sunoco Super Series has done with the Southern
All-Stars. This will be the second time the Sunoco Super Series has
worked with ASA on an event. In 2002 the very successful Car Brite 200
was a part of the ASA Championship weekend at Winchester Speedway.
The Sunoco Super Series
will sanction two famed 400-lap events in 2003. On July 12th
the series will visit Anderson Speedway for the 37th
Annual Anderson 400. That event will be the second of three events the
series will have at Anderson Speedway in 2003. The second 400 lapper on
the 2003 schedule will be at Winchester Speedway on Sunday, October 5th.
The 34th Annual Car Brite 400 at Winchester
Speedway will be the season ending championship event for the Sunoco
Super Series in 2003. The series will have one other date at Winchester
Speedway on Saturday night, June 21st. The Sunoco
Super Series will team with the USA Modifieds at both Winchester
Speedway events in 2003.
Other traditional Indiana
events on the 2003 schedule include two stops at Angola Motor Speedway
on Friday, July 4th and on Saturday, August 30th.
The series will visit Indianapolis Raceway Park on August 9th
for the traditional UAW event. The series will visit Baer Field Speedway
twice again in the month of August. The first event will be the 6th
Annual International Truck & Engine Gold Cup 100 on Thursday, August 7th.
That special event will be a non-points event for the series. The series
will return to Baer Field Speedway on Sunday, August 24th
for the Second Annual Big Bash Weekend.
The series will have five
events in the state of Ohio in 2003. Besides the new event at Mansfield
Motorsports Speedway, the series will have two events at Shady Bowl
Speedway, the first will be on Saturday, May 31st,
and the second will be on Saturday, July 26th. The
series will return to Toledo Speedway for one event in 2003 on Sunday,
July 20th. The series will race at Columbus Motor
Speedway on Sunday, September 7th.
“The 2003 schedule was a
tough one to finish,” remarked R.J. Scott, Managing Partner of the
Sunoco Super Series, “but the finished product was worth the wait.” “We
are really excited about all the new tracks and the new challenges we
will face with this schedule in 2003. This schedule will provide our
racers and our fans with some great racing at the best racetracks in
this region. I believe this schedule reflects the great success the
Sunoco Super Series has had since it's beginning in 1997!”
