CRA Super Series
To Be Part Of The 5th Annual Buckeye Bash At Columbus Motor
Speedway
Salem, IN (December 10, 2006) CRA
Super Series officials have announced that the CRA Super Series will
be a part of the 5th Annual Buckeye Bash on Saturday, June
2nd, 2007 at Columbus Motor Speedway. The CRA Super Series
has raced in every
Buckeye
Bash since its beginning during the 2003 season. Each of the last
four CRA Super Series events with the Buckeye Bash have been classic
battles with the top series talent racing against a star studded field
on the flat 1/3-mile track.
2003 CRA Super Series Champion Bobby
Parsley profited from an early "high groove only" practice session at
Columbus Motor Speedway on Saturday, June 3, 2006 by learning the
quick way around the high side of the track, a lesson he used
throughout the 4th Annual Buckeye Bash. Parsley led seven
drivers who broke the track record in Appleton Rack & Pinion
Qualifying, he started sixth and chased down the leader within 17
laps. The next forty laps Parsley and leader Donnie Hill, a legend at
Columbus Motor Speedway, raced side by side with Parsley on the
outside, with Hill narrowly keeping the lead each lap on the inside.
Just after taking the crossed flags for half way Parsley drove in deep
on the outside in the third turn and beat Hill to the line to take the
lead for good going on to win by almost two seconds.
2006 and 2002 CRA Super Series
Champion Scott Hantz finished in second while former Columbus great
and ASA Racing Series Champion Gary St. Amant charged from his ninth
place starting position to finish in third catching and passing Hill
on the white flag lap. Hill held on to finish in fourth while 2004 CRA
Super Series Champion Chuck Barnes Jr. finished in fifth.
The list of previous winners with the
CRA Super Series in the Buckeye Bash is a very impressive veteran
group including 2005 winner Jack Landis, who came back from a first
lap spin to get the victory, his first ever with the CRA Super Series.
In 2004 Scott Hantz held off a hard charging Robbie Pyle to get the
victory. In 2003 veteran Michigan racer Fred Campbell used the outside
groove to make a pass on Andy Ponstein to get the victory. The CRA
Super Series raced an event in 2002 before the start of the Annual
Buckeye Bash. Veteran Canadian racer Junior Hanley claimed the first
ever CRA Super Series victory on Columbus Motor Speedway that season.
