CRA Super Series To Be
Part Of Twin 100’s 4th Of July Weekend Event At Toledo
Speedway In 2006
Salem, IN (December 13, 2005) –
Toledo Speedway and CRA Super Series officials have announced that
the CRA Super Series will be a part of the Twin 100’s 4th
Of July Weekend event at
the
famed Toledo Speedway in 2006. The event is set to take place on the ˝
mile banked oval on Sunday, July 2nd, with a rain date of
Monday, July 3rd. The CRA Super Series will have a 100-lap
event and will be companioned with a 100-lap Royal Glass City Gold Cup
ARCA Outlaw Late Model event.
"We are very excited about returning
to Toledo Speedway again in 2006 and having the Royal Glass City Gold
Cup ARCA Outlaw Late Models racing with us," remarked R.J. Scott,
Managing Partner of the CRA Super Series. "It is a great format that
offers fans the opportunity to see the best of both types of late
model racing competing on the same night. Just as it has in the past
this event will have several drivers that will compete in both
divisions. Needless to say, as usual it will be a very exciting night
of racing with on track fireworks at Toledo Speedway!"
The CRA Super Series has now had
seven events at Toledo Speedway since August 4th, 2000 when
Harold Fair Jr. won his first ever CRA Super Series event. Canadian
racing legend Junior Hanley has had the most success at Toledo
Speedway with the CRA Super Series, capturing one win in 2001 and one
win in 2002. NASCAR Busch Series Rookie Driver Joel Kauffman won his
first ever CRA Super Series event in May of 2002 at Toledo Speedway on
his way to winning the 2002 CRA Super Series Championship. Veteran
Michigan driver Fred Campbell cruised to victory at the CRA Super
Series event at Toledo Speedway in 2003, taking over the lead from
Jeff Lane on lap 24 to get the win. Jeff Lane beat Scott Hantz in a
very exciting event in 2004 that featured several laps of side by side
racing action for the lead of the event.
Last seasons A.P. Racing Engines 100
for the CRA Super Series at Toledo Speedway on Sunday, May 29th
was yellow flagged twice for rain and finally halted after 91 laps
when the rain came and stayed, giving Johnny Belott III his first ever
CRA Super Series victory by a few feet over Eddie Van Meter. Belott
and Van Meter, who was also trying to capture his first ever CRA Super
Series victory, put on an exciting show of side by side racing with
Van Meter edging Belott by inches at the line the two laps prior to
the yellow. The rain came down hard as the cars reached the
backstretch causing Van Meter to bobble slightly right before the
final yellow was displayed freezing the field giving the victory to
Belott of Mt. Morris, Michigan.
Toledo Speedway’s resurgence as one
of the premier short tracks in the Midwest continues under the
guidance of ARCA President Ron Drager and Detroit-area businessman Roy
Mott who purchased the track in January of 1999. Toledo Speedway has
had a numerous improvements with the new ownership including a new pit
road inside the track and a large paved back pit area with a very
racer friendly tech building, restrooms and concession area. The track
also features a new race control tower and suites above the
grandstands, as well as a new back pit area grandstand.
