This Coming Weekend At Winchester Speedway
Winchester, IN (August 29, 2006)
– There will be plenty of racing at Winchester Speedway this weekend
with the Labor Day Weekend World Stock Car Festival Presented By
Maple-Tarr Chrysler
Dodge
Jeep. Six different classes of racecars will compete on the famous
High Banks this weekend including the CRA Super Series late models,
the CRA Street Stocks, the CRA Sportsman, the American Modifieds
ThunderCars, Front Wheel Drive Minis.
The CRA Super Series Presented By
Spray Power will compete in the McGunegill Engine Performance 100, it
will be the second stop for the series at Winchester Speedway leading
up to the return of the Winchester 400 on Sunday, October 15th.
2005 CRA Super Series Drivers Points Champion Jeff Lane got the
victory on April 23rd on the series first visit of 2006, it
was his first victory at Winchester Speedway with the CRA Super
Series. Lane took full advantage of his pole starting position leading
all 100 laps of the Manning Service 100. Chris Gabehart pursued Lane
for most of the race, but was never able to challenge for the lead.
Gabehart finished in second, hard charging former series champion
Brian
Rievley
finished in third after starting 13th, Zach Taylor finished
in fourth in his first ever start at Winchester Speedway, Tommy St.
John finished in fifth.
Scott Hantz is the CRA Super Series
point’s leader by 33 points over JR Roahrig with Tommy St. John 37
points behind in third place with three points events left on the 2006
schedule. Several new teams are expected to race in Monday’s feature
event in order to prepare for the 35th Annual Winchester
400. Bull Baker and Brian Ross tied for the most series wins at
Winchester Speedway with 3 a piece, Baker is entered for Monday’s
event.
Owensboro, Kentucky native Beau
Mitchell was the winner of the last Max 93.5/96.7 CRA Street Stock
event at Winchester Speedway on Sunday, August 13th. Mitchell, the
events fast qualifier, came from the tail after suffering a flat tire
early in the event to get the victory, which was his third in a row at
Winchester
Speedway with the Street Stocks. Brian Hopkins came in second, Mike
Riddle Jr. in third, Chuck Cook in fourth and Mike Miller in fifth.
Noblesville, Indiana veteran racer
Joe Beaver is the current point leader by 21 over Anderson, Indiana
native Rich Boyer, who was forced to drive another competitors car at
the last event after suffering transmission problems in his racecar
during practice. Brian Hopkins is currently third 32 points behind
Beaver, while Chuck Cook is fifth 73 points behind. Justin "Bubba"
Trinkle is in fifth, 101 points behind Beaver with three events left
in the season for the Max 93.5/96.7 CRA Street Stocks including the
200 lap, $5000 to win event on September 17th.
Al Cook Jr. got the last CRA
Sportsman victory on July 23rd at Winchester Speedway, it
was the first race Cook Jr. ever raced at Winchester Speedway. Cook
had to hold off a late charge from Terry Fisher Jr. who finished in
second. Terry Gater finished in third in his first CRA Sportsman event
of the season.
Point’s
leader Keith Sterkowitz finished in fourth with Rick Tackman Jr. in
fifth.
Sterkowitz, a native of Cedar Lake,
Indiana, currently holds a slim 2-point lead over Terry Fisher Jr.
with two events still left in the 2006 CRA Sportsman season. Al Cook
Jr. is currently in third 24 points behind Sterkowitz. The Tim Bennett
owned #1 Sportsman is currently in fourth 50 points behind Sterkowitz
while Zach Hulvey is in fifth 54 points behind in what looks like a
tough points battle that will go down to the series final event on

This weekend will be the second
appearance of the American Modifieds at Winchester Speedway. On July
23rd it was veteran Dave Stacy getting the win after a
tough battle with second place finisher Brian Nester, the 2005
American Modified points Champion. Nester held off Stacy’s challenges
for several laps before Stacy finally completed a pass using a little
bump and run to get by Nester who held off Mike Stacy to get second.
Rodney Scott finished in fourth, with Bud Perry finishing fifth.
This weekend will also be the first
appearance of the season for ThunderCars and Front Wheel Drive Mini’s
to the High Banks. Both groups will have heat races and features on
Sunday and features on Monday. It was also recently announced that
ThunderCars and Front Wheel Drive Mini’s have been added to the
Sunday, September 17th show at Winchester Speedway.
The weekend will start with an open
practice for all divisions on Saturday. Pit gates open at 10am with
rotating practice sessions from 1 to 5pm. Pit gates open on Sunday
morning at 9am, practice begins at 11:30am, qualifying will start at
3:15pm. Sunday nights racing action will begin at 6pm with heat races
for the CRA Street Stocks, ThunderCars, Front Wheel Drive Mini’s and
CRA Sportsman. The American Modifieds will have a Dash for there top
qualifiers then there will be 20 lap features for both the ThunderCars
and Front Wheel Drive Mini’s. After the racing action there will be a
party in the Pavilion behind turn 1 of the racetrack with music
starting at 9pm.
Pit gates will open on Monday at 9am.
There will be a short warm-up session for all divisions at 11am, Last
Chance races will begin at 12noon. The first of six feature events
will take the green flag at 1pm starting with the Front Wheel Drive
Mini’s, which will be followed by the 40 lap CRA Sportsman feature.
The CRA Super Series will be next in the McGunegill Engine Performance
100 then the ThunderCar 20 lap feature. The American Modifieds will
then hit the track for the Fire Bottle 40 Presented By Dippin’ Dots,
followed by the CRA Street Stocks in the Maple-Tarr Chrysler Dodge
Jeep 40.
