Street Stocks and CRA Sportsman Return To Action This Sunday At
Winchester Speedway

– The Max 93.5/96.7 CRA Street Stocks
and
CRA Sportsman return to action this Sunday, August 27th at
Winchester Speedway. The Max 93.5/96.7 CRA Street Stocks and CRA
Sportsman will join the USAC National Sprint Car Series, who will be
racing in the Kenny Irwin Memorial, in providing fans an exciting
afternoon of racing action on the famous High Banks of Winchester
Speedway. This event was originally scheduled for June 11th,
but was postponed because of rain.
Owensboro, Kentucky native Beau
Mitchell was the winner of the last Max 93.5/96.7 CRA Street Stock
event at Winchester Speedway on Sunday, August 13th. Mitchell, the
events fast qualifier, came from the tail after suffering a flat tire
early in the event to get the victory, which was his third in a row at
Winchester Speedway with the Street Stocks. Brian Hopkins came in
second, Mike Riddle Jr. in third, Chuck Cook in fourth and Mike Miller
in fifth.
Noblesville, Indiana veteran racer
Joe Beaver is the current point leader by 21 over Anderson, Indiana
native Rich Boyer, who was forced to drive another competitors car at
the last event after suffering transmission problems in his racecar
during practice. Brian Hopkins is currently third 32 points behind
Beaver, while Chuck Cook is fifth 73 points behind. Justin "Bubba"
Trinkle is in fifth, 101 points behind Beaver with four events left in
the season for the Max 93.5/96.7 CRA Street Stocks including the 200
lap, $5000 to win event on September 17th.
Al Cook Jr. got the last CRA
Sportsman victory on July 23rd at Winchester Speedway, it
was the first race Cook Jr. ever raced at Winchester Speedway. Cook
had to hold off a late charge from Terry Fisher Jr. who finished in
second. Terry Gater finished in third in his first CRA Sportsman event
of the season. Point’s leader Keith Sterkowitz finished in fourth with
Rick Tackman Jr. in fifth.
Sterkowitz, a native of Cedar Lake,
Indiana currently holds a slim 2-point lead over Terry Fisher Jr. with
three events still left in the 2006 CRA Sportsman season. Al Cook Jr.
is currently in third 24 points behind Sterkowitz. The Tim Bennet
owned #1 Sportsman is currently in fourth 50 points behind Sterkowitz
while Zach Hulvey is in fifth 54 points behind in what looks like a
tough points battle that will go down to the series final event on
Friday, October 13th a part of the Winchester 400 weekend.
Pit gates open this Sunday for the
special "twilight" event at 11am. Practice will begin at 1:30pm with
qualifying at 3pm. The race program will begin at 5pm and will include
both heat races and features for all three divisions racing Sunday.
