Jeff Lane Takes
Over CRA Super Series Drivers Points Lead
Salem, IN (August 30, 2005) -
Knightstown, Indiana veteran racer Jeff Lane has used the strength of
six straight top five finishes to take over the CRA Super Series
Presented By Spray Power Drivers points lead with only five series
points events left on the 2005 schedule. In a season that has seen no
driver
dominate,
including 13 different winners in 14 events, the closest has been
Lane’s run over the past six events.
After starting the season off with a
19th place finish in the season opener because of an oil
leak, Lane had two top five finishes over the next two events that
seemed to put him in a good position to run for the series
championship, but then the bad luck started. Lane suffered a blown
motor at Winchester, another motor problem at Columbus then a cut tire
at Berlin. His team was seeing their hopes of a championship slip away
quickly.
Things began to turn around at
Illiana Motor Speedway with a third place finish. Things really turned
around in the next series event at Angola Motor Speedway. Lane came
from his ninth starting position to get the win over Bobby Parsley.
Next up came the famed Anderson 400 were Lane fought back from a lap
down to battle Eddie Hoffman over the closing laps for the lead. Lane
ended up second, his best finish ever in the annual 400-lap event.
Lane
continued his streak of good runs with a fifth place finish at
Kalamazoo Speedway. Lane battled Rick Turner through out the closing
laps for the win at the August Anderson Speedway event, but had to
settle for second place. Lane came into the series last event at
Berlin Raceway poised to take the points lead, which he did with
another second place finish, this time to local racer Ross Meeuwsen
who used his experience on the tricky half-mile racetrack to get his
first ever CRA Super Series win.
Lane now holds a five-point lead over
Bobby Parsley, who had lead after the previous CRA Super Series event.
Eddie Van Meter, who held the points lead at the season’s halfway
point, is now in third 17 points behind Lane. Eddie Hoffman has used
his two series wins to be in fourth in series Driver points, 23 points
behind even though he has raced one less race than all the drivers in
the top eight in Drivers points. Scott Hantz is currently in fifth
place, only 27 points behind Lane in what has become the tightest
Driver point’s battle ever for the CRA Super Series.
Eddie Hoffman’s team TK Racing
currently leads the series Owner’s points by 52 points over Lane’s
team. Steve Moenck drove the TK Racing CRA Super Series entry at
Columbus Motor Speedway while Hoffman raced a NASCAR AutoZone Midwest
event in Colorado the same weekend for team owner Tom Kmak.
The next CRA Super Series Presented
By Spray Power event will be the McGunegill Engine Performance 100 on
Monday, September 5 of Labor Day Weekend, which is part of the World
Stock Car Festival Presented By Maple-Tarr Chrysler Dodge Jeep at
Winchester Speedway. More in formation is available
