Special from Ruston Racing
Kenzie Ruston Ready to Kick Off 2012 at
Speedfest with Newly Formed Team
Mooresville, NC (January 23, 2012) -
2011 was a breakout year for the 20-year-old El Reno, Oklahoma native
who became the first female to win a CRA Super Series event when she
took the No.39 MelMark Pipe & Supply team to victory lane at Lucas Oil
Raceway (IN).
After her impressive 2011 season, Ruston is
set to kick off her 2012 season this weekend at Speedfest 2012, a
200-lap Super Late Model Event at Watermelon Capital Speedway in
Cordele, GA.
"We had an incredible 2011 season, our team
proved to be a contender each race and that gives us a ton of
confidence going into the 2012 season. I’ve never been to Cordele
before but I’m excited to get back behind the wheel and continue to
build on last season."
The off season has been a busy one for
Ruston, as the team made the decision to form Kenzie Ruston Racing.
Typically, with moving teams comes personnel changes. However Ruston
was determined to bring her crew chief, Nick Easton, over to the newly
formed Kenzie Ruston Racing to continue his key role for the talented
female stock car driver in the 2012 season.
"I’m very excited to be working with Nick
again this season. He is one of the smartest crew chiefs in the
business and a key element to our future success. I believe with Nick
as the leader of this team we can accomplish our goals for this
season."
KRR didn’t stop with securing one of the top
crew chiefs in the business. They also hired veteran spotter and late
model champion Mike Herman Jr. to serve as spotter and driver coach
for the entire 2012 season. Also adding to the mix for the season is
well respected tire specialist, Wesley Weed.
"We aimed to build a dream team this year
and I feel like that’s what we assembled. Herman and Weed bring an
extensive background of success with them to our team. These guys are
just as excited as I am about the season and that gives me a ton of
confidence."
With the field of pre-entries including some
of the best Super Late Model drivers from across the county, NASCAR
stars, and short track champions, Speedfest 2012 is quickly setting up
to be one of the toughest races of Ruston’s career.
Ruston’s weekend will kick off on Friday,
January 27th with a full day of practice. Saturday’s
activities will include qualifying for the Sunday feature event.
