Jim Cordes, of Cordes Inc.,
continues
to be a sponsor of Jay Niewiek’s #84 CRA Super Series late model .Jim
came on when Jay was 14 years old and racing at the Arena Racing
Series. Jim tried racing himself when he was in his 20s, but when he
went through the board fence at a race track the first time out, he
said driving race cars was "not for him". Jim started out in the
trucking business when he was 17 years old with one worn out old 1947
Mack dump truck. Now at 79, Jim is still CEO of his family business
with a fleet of over 40 double bottom dumps and tanker trucks. Jim
still works a 50 hours week. His fleet hauls iron ore from northern
Michigan to the steel manufactures and lime to the waste treatment
plants. All fleet maintenance and repairs are done at his state of the
art facility.
Jim has been able to grow his antique car
and truck collection to include everything from a 1905 Rambler, the
only one known in the world, to a 1997 Mustang Saleen . Jim has what
most guys would love to have: a 3 bedroom home with 2 full baths and
123 (yes, that’s one hundred twenty three) stall garage! Jim has been
married to his sweet, lovely wife Mary Jane for 57 years and has 5
children who are Jim Jr., Steve, Charley, Kathy and Mary. Jay Niewiek
wants to say thanks to Jim and Mary Jane for their support of his
racing career. Thank you Cordes!
Niewiek is currently sixth in CRA Super
Series points heading into this weekend’s Season Championship
Winchester 400 at Winchester Speedway. Niewiek currently lead the
Cometic Gasket Hardcharger Standing for the CRA Super Series.
