CRA Super
Series Points Race Tightens up Heading to Berlin Raceway this Saturday
Salem, IN
(October 5, 2011) – The CRA Super Series Championship points race
has tightened up significantly as the teams head back to Berlin
Raceway this Saturday for the makeup of the Keyser’s Port City Racing
125 that was
postponed
because of rain on September 24th. Three time series
Champion Scott Hantz saw his 38 point lead shrink to just 15 after
last Sunday’s event at Lucas Oil Raceway were Hantz salvaged a 25th
place finish after contact from another car damaged his racecar. Hantz
and his team worked on the car for several laps, he was able to return
to the event and gain five positions to keep the points lead as he
tries to claim a fourth CRA title.
Welch & Wilson
Motorsports driver Derrick Griffin survived a couple of instances on a
day when all the top point teams experienced some type of trouble to
get an 11th place finish, tops among the top five in series
points. Griffin, the series current leader in rookie points, is trying
to become the first driver to claim the series Points Championship and
Rookie of the Year honors in the same season since Hantz did it in
2000. Terry Fisher Jr. is in third place, he is 58 points behind
Griffin Jr. Kenny Tweedy is in fourth place, only 15 points behind
Fisher Jr. Rookie Mason Mingus is in fifth place, nine points behind
Tweedy. All five are entered for the Keyser’s Port City Racing 125.
The Keyser’s Port City Racing 125 will once again
pit the best of CRA against some of the best local racers in the
country. Former CRA Super Series Berlin Raceway winners who are
entered include Hantz, Ross Meeuwsen and Tom Thomas. Brian Campbell,
who is tied with his father Fred as the leader in CRA Super Series
victories at Berlin Raceway with three a piece, is not entered, his
brother is getting married Saturday and Brian is the Best Man in the
wedding.
Other top
series drivers entered for the Keyser’s Port City Racing 125 includes
former Berlin regulars Johnny VanDoorn and Jay Niewiek along with
Jason Dietsch, Damon Ecoff and Peter Cozzolino. Several top local
drivers are also entered including Terry VanHaitsma who won the
JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour event at Berlin on September 10th,
