Series Returns to 9th Annual North/South Shootout at
Caraway Speedway

Super Late Model and Southern Tour Champions to be Crowned
Salem, IN
(November 1, 2011) – The CRA Super Series will conclude it’s 2011
racing season with the North/South Shootout 100 Presented by WearCrete
Diamond Concrete Polishing as part of the famed 9th Annual
North/South Shootout presented in loving memory of Charles Kepley,
this Saturday at Caraway Speedway located in Sophia, North Carolina.
This will be CRA’s third North/South Shootout event, Jeff Fultz won
the event in 2009, while Colt James won last season’s exciting event,
both of which were held at Concord Speedway. The North/South Shootout
will be held for the first time ever at Caraway Speedway this weekend.
On Saturday
CRA
will
crown its first ever CRA National Late Model Champion, which consist
of a drivers best four event finishes in the four CRA Super Series
Southern Tour events and the best four finishes in the CRA Super
Series Northern Tour events during the 2011 season. 15 year old Chase
Elliott, the son of NASCAR great Bill Elliott, is the current leader
in CRA National Late Model Champion points heading into Saturday’s
North/South Shootout 100. Elliott, a development driver for famed
NASCAR owner Rick Hendrick, has a substantial 61 point lead over Ross
Kenseth, the closet driver in points to Elliott that is entered for
this weekend’s event. Kenseth is the son of NASCAR competitor Matt
Kenseth, he is looking to get his third CRA Super Series victory of
the season. Elliott is also looking for his third series win of the
season after getting victories in the Southern Tour SpeedFest opener
at Lanier National Speedway and a Northern Tour victory at Dixie Motor
Speedway.
Bubba Pollard,
the hottest late model driver in the country with 18 wins so far this
season, comes into Saturday’s event as the point’s leader in the CRA
Super Series Southern Tour, including a victory in the Southern Tour’s
last event on September 17th at Gresham Motorsports Park.
Elliott is the closest driver in Southern Tour points that is entered
for this weekend’s event, he is 15 points behind Pollard. Driver’s got
to drop their worse finish of the season in the CRA Super Series
Southern Tour points. 2010 CRA Super Series Southern Tour Champion
Ryan Blaney, son of NASCAR racer Dave Blaney, is also entered for
Saturday’s event, he is 19 points behind Pollard in Southern Tour
points.
Other CRA
Super Series Southern Tour regular competitors who are entered include
former North/South Shootout winner Jeff Fultz for car owner Curtis
Venable in the WearCrete Racing #67, also Randy Gentry, Jimmy Weller
and Alan Karnes. 1997 CRA Super Series Champion Kenny Tweedy from
Greenfield, Indiana is entered along with his teammate Nate Caruth
from Ames, Iowa.
Several local
competitors are expected to compete in Saturday night’s event
including Grant Davidson from nearby Asheboro, North Carolina. Other
drivers entered include three drivers from Pennsylvania who will be
making their CRA debuts Matt Barndt, Austin Kochenash and Zane Ziener
who will be doing triple duty this weekend by also competing in the
NASCAR type Modifieds and in a SK Modified. Also entered are Spencer
Wauters, son of famed crew chief Richie Wauters, from Concord, North
Carolina as well as David Quakenbush from Lortou, Virginia.
Also making
his CRA debut will be 16 year old Scott "The Rocket" Hensley from
Olive Branch, Mississippi, driving for Mark Reedy of Kannapolis, North
Carolina, who has raced in the previous two CRA North/South Shootout
events. Hensley is a multi-time National Legends Car Champion and has
been driving a Sprint Car for Ricky Stenhouse, father of NASCAR
competitor Ricky Stenhouse Jr.
There is an
optional open practice on Thursday, pits open at 9am, and practice
will go from 12noon until 6pm. On Friday, pits open at 8am, practice
will begin at 11am with qualifying beginning at 5pm. Pit gates open on
Saturday at 8am and practice will begin at 10am. There will be a pit
party with an autograph session with all the North/South Shootout
drivers starting at 12:30pm. The race program is scheduled to begin at
2pm and will include the North/South Shootout 100 Presented by
WearCrete Diamond Concrete Polishing for the CRA Super Series.
