Veteran Jack Smith Heads to Illiana in Search of a
Win in the Illiana 100 Presented by JEGS.com
Medina, OH (May 12, 2011) - Buckeye State veteran, Jack
Smith was looking forward to the start of the inaugural event for the
JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by GM Performance Parts; The VR-12
Easter Bunny 100 Presented by JEGS.com at Toledo Speedway in his home
state. Unfortunately for
the
Medina, Ohio driver, his race lasted all of two turns.
An accident in front of him as the 32-car field dove into turns one
and two left Smith with nowhere to go and the part-time NASCAR Camping
World Trucks Series competitor was an innocent bystander in the
opening lap wreck, suffering heavy damage both cosmetically and
internally forcing him to drop out before a lap was completed, leaving
him with a disappointing start in his quest for the JEGS/CRA/GM
championship.
"Luck wasn’t on our side at Toledo," Stated Smith as he and his UB
Machine Team continue preparations for race #2. "We had a good car and
we were just going to ride it out for the first 3/4s of the race and
then make a move with about 25 to go. But some cars got together in
front of us and we just had nowhere to go. That’s ok though, it just
motivates us more to come from behind and we’ve still got 10 races
left."
Smith’s #28 UB Machine Ford has
been rebuilt and the UB Machine / Jack Smith Motorsports Team will now
head out to the second race of the inaugural season for the Salem,
Indiana based series as the JEGS/CRA/GM tour will race at Illiana
Motor Speedway in Schererville, Indiana this Saturday, May 14th
for the running of the Illiana 100 Presented by JEGS.com.
"For sure we’ve got some catching up to do to get back in the title
hunt, but we’re only a race into the 2011 schedule and I’m excited.
The next three races are at tracks I’ve done well at in the past, so
we’re looking forward to Illiana, as well as Columbus and Anderson."
He continued. "The first track we go to that I haven’t seen before is
Dixie (Motor Speedway in Birch Run, Michigan) on June 17th.
I hear that’s a nice place to race, but we’ve got to do well at these
next three before I start worrying about that one." Smith ended.
As for the remainder of the 2011 racing season and in addition to
his JEGS/CRA/GM schedule, Smith will also be making select appearances
within the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. Smith’s first race with
the series will be announced soon.
"We had a great showing in our last race at Kansas Speedway last
May and I want to build off of that. Hopefully none of our Truck stuff
will interfere with my JEGS/CRA/GM schedule because the JEGS/CRA/GM
tour is my #1 priority. I want that first ever championship and even
though we’re behind the eight ball after Toledo, it’s still a long
season and I know we’ll be right there contending for a title when we
get to Winchester in October." He ended.
For the remainder of the 2011 racing season, Smith’s familiar red
#28 Ford Fusion will carry sponsorship decals from UB Machine as well
as Glenbeigh Treatment Centers, Mittler Brothers Machine & Tool, M.B.
