Mason Mingus Eager to Continue His
Season at Baer Field
Young Driver Not Intimidated by His First Trip to the Ft. Wayne
Half-Mile
CONCORD, NC (May
19, 2011) – Mason Mingus is
off to an impressive start to his rookie season on the CRA Super
Series. Heading in to the second race of the season, the Tennessee
teenager is second in points, which will certainly help him on his way
to achieving his goal of becoming this year’s CRA Rookie of the Year.
His first race of the season, a second-place finish in the season
opener at Indiana’s Anderson Speedway, was an exciting way to kick off
the 2011 campaign, but his next race will be another tough battle on
an Indiana bullring.

Mingus and the
Tennessee/Kentucky 811 “Call Before You Dig” team will look to
continue the strong start to the year in his first visit to Fort
Wayne, Indiana’s Baer Field Speedway for the Asphalt Wars 100 on
Sunday, May 22nd.
Though there are a
few fears about the new track, Mingus is prepared to show up and give
his best effort.
“Overall I think
we’ll be fine; it’s just a matter of getting there and getting used to
the track and getting the set up underneath the car,” said Mingus.
“We typically have really great race cars so I think we’ll be fine in
the race.”
During his last
race at Anderson, Mingus showed he could drive his way to the front of
the pack after starting 14th and finishing second. He had
some exciting battles throughout the race and kept his head about him
en route to a head-turning second-place finish. Unlike Anderson,
where he had prior experience, Mingus will make the trip from his home
in Brentwood, Tennessee to the fast Baer Field track for the first
time in his career.
“It’s going to take
some time to get everything worked out, but we’ll have a while in
practice on Friday and Saturday so I think that will give us enough
time to get the car set up.”
Though Mingus has
never been to Baer Field, he will not be walking in to the weekend
completely blind. His new mentor and spotter is former CRA Super
Series Champion Chuck Barnes, Jr. Barnes has been giving Mingus
information and direction about the track to help him prepare for the
weekend.
With the guidance
he’s been given, Mingus is now feeling even better about tackling the
new speedway.
“I think I’m going
to like the track, it’s been described to me as a bigger version of
Kentucky Motor Speedway and I like that track a lot, so hopefully I’ll
take to it pretty quickly.”
Facing a new track,
going in to practice and getting the car ready to race aren’t Mingus’
biggest worries right now, he’s busy thinking about the long run in
Saturday’s feature.
“In the race, how
to save the tires and save the car throughout the long run on the
track is more of what I’m focusing on since we haven’t been there and
experienced what happens to the car.”
Mingus will be
receiving support from 811 “Call Before You Dig,” Diamond Equipment
and Sperry’s Restaurant for the Super Late Model race sanctioned by
the CRA Super Series.
The Asphalt Wars
100 is scheduled for Sunday May, 22 at Baer Field Speedway in Ft.
Wayne, IN. Racing starts at 2:00 PM.
