Special from Paragon Racing Team
Podium Finish at Toledo; 12th
in Speed51.com Draft has 14-year-old Erik Jones Eager for Illiana
Byron, MI (May 11, 2011) - A third
place finish in the VR-12 Easter Bunny 100 Presented by JEGS.com at
Toledo Speedway in Toledo, Ohio back on April 23rd was a great run for
14-year-old Erik Jones who will forever hold the distinction of
leading the first ever lap in feature competition in the new JEGS/CRA
All-Stars Tour Presented by GM Performance Parts.
"We had a really solid run going at Toledo.
I think we may have had a shot at the win until we lost a couple of
cylinders." Explained the soon to be 15-year-old on May 30th. "(Race
Winner) Brian
(Campbell)
had a really good car, and it was good to get more experience racing
with a driver of his caliber. We're happy with our third place finish,
obviously we would have rather won, but this is a good start to the
point's year. I think we could have had a second place finish if it
wasn't for the last restart." He added.
Campbell choose the inside lane in the
Double File restarts and on that last restart with just two laps to
go, Jones' engine woes wouldn't let him get up to speed right away and
thus allowed veteran Eddie Hoffman to slip underneath of Jones to take
away the runner-up spot, forcing Jones back to third, which is where
he finished.
Earlier in the day, Jones qualified second
quick out of 39 teams on the grounds and was one of just two drivers,
the other was Campbell, who won the Keyser Manufacturing Fast
Qualifier award, to break Jones' old track record for template body /
crate motor machines. Campbell then drew a three for an inversion
which placed Jones on the outside of the front row next to
pole-sitter, Josh Nelms. Jones led the first lap before Nelms go by on
lap two. Jones regrouped and took the lead back only to see Campbell
slip by on lap 18 and lead the rest of the way.
Up next for Jones and his Paragon Racing
Team will be a trip to Illiana Motor Speedway in Schererville, Indiana
on Saturday, May 14th for the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by GM
Performance Parts second race of their inaugural season; The Illiana
100 Presented by JEGS.com. Last season in the old Northern Late Model
Series and still just 13 years old at the time, Jones started on the
pole, led laps, and finished seventh. This time around, the Great
Lakes state teenager is looking for better results.
"I have been to Illiana one time before, and
I am happy to be able to go back." He continued. "We had a solid
seventh place finish there last year, and I hope to be able to improve
on that this year, and come home with another solid finish again."
Earlier in the week, Jones was honored as
the #12 pick in the 2011 Draft conducted by Speed51.com, the leader in

In addition to his full schedule in the
JEGS/CRA/GM series, Jones also plans on making his CRA Super Series
debut later in the year and will be making select appearances there as
well as running events in the new Premier Boyne Super Late Model
Series over on the Westside of his home state at the famed Berlin
Raceway, located West of Grand Rapids in Marne, Michigan.
