First Ever Asphalt
Wars Coming to Baer Field Speedway on Sunday, May 22
Three CRA Divisions
and Modifieds to Race on the Half-mile
Salem, IN (May 5, 2011) –
Asphalt Wars, a new and exciting event involving three Champion Racing
Association Divisions, is set to take place at Baer Field Speedway, in
Ft. Wayne, Indiana on
Sunday,
May 22nd. Veteran CRA racer Jason Dietsch is the promoter
of this huge event that will feature a total of four division’s
including the CRA Super Series, EDCO Welding CRA Street Stocks, the
Vore’s Welding & Steel CRA FWD Compacts and a special event for
Modifieds, all on the half-mile track at Baer Field.
"I saw were there were
not any touring stock car series coming to Baer Field Speedway in
2011, so I decided to lease the track and promote my first ever racing
event," explained Dietsch. "I love racing on this track, this was the
only way I was going to get to race here this season. I have gone out
on a limb to do this event, but I have a lot of great people that have
stepped up to sponsor the event, I really appreciate their help!"
To date Dietsch has gotten sponsor
commitments from JVM Enterprises, EDCO Welding, Coe Heating & Air,
Sherwin Williams Automotive Paint, H&W Automotive, Meineke of Ft.
Wayne, All Service Glass, Dietsch Trailer Sales, Dietsch Sales &
Service, Howe Racing and Phil Harper Motorsports. All these sponsors
will help with a huge afternoon of racecars battling for the win in
the first ever Asphalt Wars at Baer Field Speedway.
The CRA Super Series will be the main
event with the Asphalt Wars 100. To date the series has had 13 events
contested at Baer Field Speedway with three time series Champion Scott
Hantz getting the most
series
wins with five. Hantz won the last series event at Baer Field in 2009,
holding off a hard charging Dietsch and Mike Kugler to get the win.
Phil Harper Motorsports has put up some special bonuses for the
Asphalt Wars 100, the highest finishing crate motor car will receive a
$300 bonus, the second highest will get a $150 bonus and the third
highest will receive a $100 bonus.
The EDCO Welding CRA Street
Stocks
have had five events at Baer Field Speedway to date. Veteran Ft. Wayne
racer Steve Christman has the most series wins with two. All five of
the previous events were held on the 3/8 mile short track, the Asphalt
Wars 50 will be the first time that the Street Stocks have ever raced
on the half-mile at Baer Field. If there are 30 or more Street Stocks
that qualify for the Asphalt Wars 50, it will pay $1000 to win!
The Vore’s Welding & Steel CRA FWD
Compacts have had four races at Baer Field Speedway with four
different winners. Veteran Baer Field racer Bob Smith got the series
last victory there in 2009 driving for
veteran Ft. Wayne car owner Blaine Miller. All four previous events
were held on the 3/8 mile, the 25 lap feature with Asphalt Wars will
be held on the half-mile. Dietsch Trailer Sales has put up some extra
1st place payoff money based upon the car count for the FWD
event. If there are 20 cars or less in the feature it will pay $200 to
win. If there are 25 or more cars in the feature it will pay $300 to
win. If there are 30 or more cars in the feature it will pay $400 to
win. If there are 35 or more cars in the feature it will pay $500 to
win!
There will also be a 50 lap feature
event for Modifieds with the Asphalt Wars. That 50 lap event will pay
$1000 to win. On the Saturday night prior, Modifieds will race with
the Baer Field Speedway regular show and it will also pay $1000 to
win. If a driver can win both feature events that weekend they will
receive a $500 bonus from Dietsch Trailer Sales. If there are 35 or
more cars that start Sunday’s feature event, it will pay $1250 to win.
So a Modified driver has the opportunity to take home $2750 in
winnings if they can win both feature events and there are 35 or more
cars in Sunday’s feature. Sunday’s event will use USA Modified Series
rules with an open tire rule and no entry fees. Teams can race on
Hoosier’s or Goodyear’s, or use a combination of both, it doesn’t
matter, it will just be the best racer who claims the win in this
Modified Asphalt War!
Hauler parking will begin on Sunday,
May 22nd at 7:15am. Pit gates will open at 8am. Practice
will begin at 10am with qualifying at 12:30pm. The Asphalt Wars will
begin at 2pm with four feature events, 100 laps for the CRA Super
Series, 50 laps features for the EDCO Welding Street Stocks and
Modifieds and a 25 lap feature for the Vore’s Welding & Steel CRA FWD
Compacts all on the half-mile at Baer Field Speedway.
