Asphalt Wars to Take
Place This Sunday at Baer Field Speedway
Three CRA Divisions to
Race on the Half-mile

Salem, IN (May 17, 2011) –
Asphalt Wars, a new and exciting event involving three Champion Racing
Association Divisions, is set to take place at Baer Field Speedway, in
Ft. Wayne, Indiana this Sunday, May 22nd. Veteran CRA racer
Jason Dietsch is the promoter of this huge event that will feature a
total of four
division’s including the CRA Super Series, EDCO Welding CRA Street
Stocks, the Vore’s Welding & Steel CRA FWD Compacts and a special
event for Modifieds, all on the half-mile track at Baer Field.
The CRA Super Series will be featured
in the Asphalt Wars 100. To date the series has had 13
events contested at Baer Field Speedway
with three time series Champion Scott Hantz getting the most series
wins with five. Hantz won the last series event at Baer Field in 2009,
holding off a hard charging Dietsch and Mike Kugler to get the win.
Hantz tops the list of entries for Sunday’s event along with fellow
Baer Field winner Jeff Lane, who was victorious at the series 2011
season opener on May 7th at Anderson Speedway and comes
into Sunday’s event as the series point’s leader.

Super Series competitors who are entered include 2009 and 2010 series
Champion John Van Doorn, event promoter Jason Dietsch, also Terry
Fisher Jr., Brian Campbell, Robert Maynor, Joe Beaver, Damon Ecoff,
Danny Jackson, Tyler Roahrig, Colin Nickolai, Boris Jurkovic, Jay
Niewiek, Nick Gullatta, and Adam Purdy. Several Rookie of the Year
candidates are entered including leading rookie point’s contender
Mason Mingus, who is coming off his best CRA finish with a second in
the series opener at Anderson. Other series rookies who are entered
include Derrick Griffin, Matt Hall, David Carter, Justin Alsip and
Colin Toland.
Other drivers entered for Sunday’s
Asphalt Wars 100 include late model great Rich Bickle from Wisconsin,
also local late model competitors Mike Kugler and Tommy Cook along
with Ohio racers Jeep Pflum and Jack Smith, also Illinois racer Steve
Campbell and former series competitor Donald Karr Jr. will return to
action after a couple of seasons on the sidelines. To date there are
30 cars already entered for Sunday’s Asphalt Wars 100!
Phil Harper Motorsports has put up
some special bonuses for the Asphalt Wars 100, the highest finishing
crate motor car will receive a $300 bonus, the second highest will get
a $150 bonus and the third highest will receive a $100 bonus.

Street Stocks have had five events at Baer Field Speedway to date.
Veteran Ft. Wayne racer Steve Christman has the most series wins with
two. All five of the previous events were held on the 3/8 mile short
track, the Asphalt Wars 50 will be the first time that the Street
Stocks have ever raced on the half-mile at Baer Field. If there are 30
or more Street Stocks that qualify for the Asphalt Wars 50, it will
pay $1000 to win!
Josh Poore comes into Sunday’s event
as the series point’s leader after his victory at Anderson Speedway on
April 23rd. CRA Super Series veteran Jeff Lane is second in
series points, only six behind Poore. Josh Myers is third, Christman
is fourth and rookie J.J. Schafer is in fifth place. Chad Poorman will
also compete in Sunday’s event after getting the series season opening
victory at Plymouth Speedway.
The Vore’s Welding & Steel CRA FWD
Compacts have had four races at Baer Field Speedway with four
different winners. All four previous events were held on the 3/8 mile,
the 25 lap feature with Asphalt Wars will be held on the half-mile.
Dietsch Trailer Sales has put up some extra 1st place
payoff money
based
upon the car count for the FWD event. If there are 20 cars or less in
the feature it will pay $200 to win. If there are 25 or more cars in
the feature it will pay $300 to win. If there are 30 or more cars in
the feature it will pay $400 to win. If there are 35 or more cars in
the feature it will pay $500 to win!
The Vore’s Welding & Steel CRA FWD
Compacts will begin their 2011 points season this Sunday at Baer Field
Speedway after having a non-points event at Plymouth Speedway on April
10th that was won by Tom Hellinga. Several series veterans
and rookies will begin their quest for the 2011 series Championship on
Sunday including 2009 and 2010 Series Champion Tim Dilg. The series
has had two events to date postponed at Winchester Speedway because of
weather.
Hauler parking will begin on Sunday
at 7:15am. Pit gates will open at 8am. Practice will begin at 10am
with qualifying at 12:30pm. The Asphalt Wars will begin at 2pm with
four feature events, 100 laps for the CRA Super Series, 50 laps
features for the EDCO Welding Street Stocks and Modifieds and a 25 lap
feature for the Vore’s Welding & Steel CRA FWD Compacts all on the
half-mile at Baer Field Speedway.
