Special from Jack Smith Motorsports

Fifth Place Finish at Columbus has Jack Smith looking ahead to the rest of the JEGS/CRA/GM season

Medina, OH (June 1, 2011) - Columbus Motor Speedway in Columbus, Ohio was the site for race #2 of the inaugural season for the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by GM Performance Parts as the CoughlinCars.com 100 Presented by JEGS.com would kick off the Memorial Day Holiday Weekend of racing in the Buckeye State.

For Jack Smith, the Medina, Ohio veteran was looking for some redemption after a disappointing finish in the series’ inaugural race back on April 23rd at Toledo Speedway, and he was looking for even more redemption after not even making the show in a CRA Super Series race at Baer Field Speedway. Smith had seen success in the past in Columbus, Ohio in a Main Event Racing Series event.

After Qualifying eighth fastest out of the 24 cars on the grounds, Smith would start the 100-lap main from the outside of the fourth row. Smith quickly worked his way into the top five when on lap 27, Keyser Manufacturing Fast Qualifier Erik Jones spun and Smith had nowhere to go and tagged the teenager’s machine resulting in some damage to Smith’s UB Machine Ford.

"I told (Car Owner) Greg (Urbine) that it felt like I had a right front tire going down, but we stayed out." Smith explained. He would drop back to as far as 10th before roaring back to crack the top five and finish in fifth. "We were lucky to finish fifth, but we’ll definitely take it right now especially after starting so far behind the eight ball after crashing at Toledo and again after we tagged Erik (Jones)." Smith explained. "That tire only had eight pounds in it when we pulled into the pits! Unreal!" He added.

"We’ve got the car just about back to where we like it. I have to thank Greg and everyone on this time for working so hard. We came up with some new Spindle Geometry and it’s really working out for us. We also have a new Air Conditioning unit in the car so that I’m more comfortable and it really does help." Smith continued.

Next up on the schedule is the third race of the season for the Salem, Indiana based series as Anderson Speedway in Anderson, Indiana is the site for the Anderson 100 Presented by JEGS.com on Saturday, June 4th. "I’m really looking forward to Anderson." Smith stated as the crew continues preparations for the fast ¼ (0.250) mile high-banked paved oval. "I really want to thank the folks at JEGS.com and everyone with CRA. I think this will become one of the biggest and best series’ in the country in a very short time."

In addition to his JEGS/CRA/GM schedule, Smith will also be making select appearances within the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. Smith’s first race with the series will be at Kentucky Speedway on Thursday, July 7th in conjunction with the first ever race at the Blue Grass State oval for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.
