Special from Puskarich Motorsports
Matt Puskarich returns to JEGS/CRA
All-Stars Tour action at Dixie Motor Speedway
Belmont, MI (June 16, 2011) - Back on
April 23rd, Toledo Speedway in Toledo, Ohio was the site of
Matt Puskarich’s first career start in a touring series as it was the
inaugural race for the Salem, Indiana based JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour.
The VR-12 Easter Bunny 100 Presented by JEGS.com was at the historic ½
(0.500) high-banked paved oval located just south of the Michigan /
Ohio state line.
After a
disappointing
qualifying effort within the massive 39-car field, the Belmont,
Michigan driver started 10th in the Last Chance Race and
had moved up to as high as fifth, very comfortably in a transfer spot
when on the white flag lap, the top two cars tangled sending everyone
in front of Puskarich scattering to avoid the wreck. Unfortunately for
the 22-year-old was caught up in the melee and was done for the night.
"We were very encouraged about Toledo, even
though the results obviously didn’t show that," Explained the 2007 Pro
Stocks Track Champion at Owosso Speedway. "The car was very fast and
we're very confident heading to Dixie. Now that we understand the
routine of the JEGS/CRA series and the expectations of a traveling
schedule, we're going there feeling very good about racing well."
In the ensuing aftermath of the Toledo
wreck, the Puskarich Motorsports crew was forced to miss the series’
second race in Columbus, Ohio. But thanks to Mother Nature’s
stranglehold on the 2011 season, that’s the only show that the team
has missed. However, for the remainder of the year, the team will make
select appearances in order to keep their rookie eligibility intact
for the 2012 season.
The next race on the JEGS/CRA schedule is
this Friday, June 17th at the 4/10s (0.400) mile
progressively banked d-shaped paved oval of Dixie Motor Speedway,
located north of Flint in Birch Run, Michigan for the running of the
Dixie 100 Presented by JEGS.com. Despite being located in Puskarich’s
home state of Michigan, he’s never raced before at the tricky speed
plant, but the driver of the newly numbered #63 EdgeWraps.com Ford is
eager to get back to racing.
"We really do appreciate all the great help
from Harley Boeve and everyone at Port City Racecars," The Great Lakes
State rookie continued. "Plus, being a little superstitious, we’re
going back to our #63 after starting off at Toledo with the #36. The
#63 is what we started with back in 2004 and we’ve enjoyed our most
success with that number, so hopefully it’s a good luck charm." He
ended.
Puskarich comes from a family with ties to
NASCAR as his Grandfather; Don Puskarich, along with his great uncle
and great grand-dad, raced in 17 races in what is now the NASCAR
Sprint Cup Series from the mid 1970s up to the early 1980s.
The entire Puskarich Motorsports team is a
family effort led by Matt’s Uncle, Greg Puskarich, who will handle the
crew chief responsibilities along the team owners and parents, Darren
and Selina Puskarich. His Sister, Jaymie Puskarich is also on the crew
along-with Dan Merriman and Cody Houghtaling. For the 2011 racing
season, The family owned #63 Ford Fusion will carry sponsorship
