Speedway Up Next for the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour

(June 13, 2011) – The JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour will head to Dixie
Motor Speedway in Birch Run, Michigan this Friday, June 17th
for the third event of the inaugural season for the crate motor late
model series sanctioned by Champion Racing Association. This will be
the first ever CRA event held at the 4/10 mile banked oval owned and
promoted by Pam and Jeff Parish.
The series
kicked off its inaugural season on April 23rd at Toledo
Speedway
were
Brian Campbell got the win over a very talented group of drivers. The
series second event was held on May 28th at Columbus Motor Speedway
were Jimmy Carter got the win after a tough battle with Mid-west
veteran Eddie Hoffman that saw a lot of exciting passes and restarts
though out the event! The series has had two rainouts so far this
season including the last scheduled event at Anderson Speedway on June
4th which has now been rescheduled for July 9th.
Hoffman comes
into Friday night’s event as the series point’s leader, but is still
seeking his first series win after two straight second place finishes
so far this season. The Illinois driver is a numerous time late model
feature winner and former crate late model Champion, and is tied for
fifth in all-time CRA Super Series victories with eight.
Currently
second in series points is 15 year old Erik Jones, he is nine points
behind Hoffman. The Michigan teenager finished third in the series
season opener at Toledo, he was the Keyser Manufacturing Fast
Qualifier at the May 28th event at Columbus and battled back from a
mid-race accident to finish 11th. Claude Plante Jr. is
currently third in series points, only 15 points out of first place
after finishing fourth in both series events this season.
Chad Finley is
currently fourth in series points after getting a third place finish
at Columbus after coming through the field after a bad qualifying run
and then back through the field again after a mid-race spin. The 19
year old has had several ARCA Series starts and will make his NASCAR
Nationwide Series debut this Saturday at Michigan International
Speedway. Brent Downey is currently fifth in series points after two
top ten finishes so far this season. Downey is five points behind
Finley.
18 year old
Jimmy Novak comes into Friday’s event as the leader in Howie Lettow
Rookie of the Year Award Presented by Howe Racing points. Novak
finished eighth in Saturday’s event claiming the Howe Racing Rookie of
the Race Award. Tom Woodin is currently second in rookie points, 15
year old Cody Coughlin is third.
There will be
an open practice at Dixie Motor Speedway on Thursday, pits open at
12Noon, practice will run from 3 to 7:30pm. On Friday pit gates open
at 12Noon, practice will begin at 3pm, with qualifying at 5:45pm. An
autograph session will be held with the series drivers at 6:15pm. The
racing action will begin at 7pm and will include the Dixie 100
Presented by JEGS.com. The night’s program will also feature the Dixie
Motor Speedway Figure 8’s, Modifieds and Pure Stocks.
