Lockport, IL (July, 5, 2011) - Strong finishes are what
counts in the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour and no one knows that better
than Josh Nelms. After a crash in the opener at Toledo Speedway
followed by another incident at Columbus Motor Speedway, the Lockport,
Illinois driver was looking for some kind of sign to point him in the
right direction for the remainder of the 2011 season.

That sign came at Dixie Motor Speedway in Birch Run, Michigan on
June 17th. Going into the Dixie 100 Presented by JEGS.com,
Nelms was in a massive five-way tie for ninth place in the season long
points standings and was looking at shaking off the cohorts
surrounding him. A podium finish was just the cure he needed as he
steered his #11 Trgovich Racing Ford into a solid third place showing.
After Qualifying sixth fastest, Keyser Manufacturing Fast
Qualifier, 15-year-old Erik Jones drew a seven for an inversion which
place Nelms on the outside of the front row next to Chad Finley.
"Dixie was a good race for Trgovich Racing. We stayed in the top four
the entire race and stayed with the lead pack. We had a fast car, but
it was just too tight to actually pass." The 35-year-old explained.
"We had a shot at the end to take the lead, but thought better off it.
I just wanted to make sure we had a good finish."
After some time off, Nelms gets back behind the wheel of his
JEGS/CRA machine on Saturday, July 9th in the rescheduled
Anderson 100 Presented by JEGS.com at the fast ¼ (0.250) mile
high-banked paved oval of Anderson Speedway in Anderson, Indiana. The
Central Indiana speed plant was to host the newest series within
Champion Racing Association (CRA) back on June 4th, but
Mother Nature paid a visit and forced series and track officials to
postpone the event.
Prior to the rain showers in Anderson, Indiana back in early June,
Keyser Manufacturing Qualifying was completed and Nelms qualified
eighth quick and will start the rescheduled 100-lap main from the
outside of the fourth row. Trent Snyder won the Keyser Manufacturing
Fast Qualifier Award and drew a six for an inversion which places Cole
Powell and Justin Matson on the front row. "We’re ready for Anderson!
We have a good car and we’re starting eighth. We’re going to try some
things in practice that we have learned and see if it will help us
down there." Nelms continued.
With his Podium finish at Dixie, Nelms escaped from the five-way
tie for ninth and is now in just a two-car tie for seventh with Danny
Jackson as both drivers have recorded 234 markers after three events.
Nelms is only 13 points outside of the Top Five, which ironically is
shared by Brent Downey and Brandon Watson and he’s not too far out of
the overall points lead as he sits 70 points behind current points
leader Eddie Hoffman.
After the Anderson race, Nelms and Trgovich Racing returns to their
home track on Saturday, July 16th at Illiana Motor Speedway
in Schererville, Indiana; for the Illiana 100 Presented by JEGS.com,
another race that was postponed due to an earlier rain out back on May
14th.
