Big CRA Double Header at M-40 Speedway this Weekend

Salem, IN (July 6, 2011) – Champion Racing Association will have its first ever events at M-40 Speedway located in Jones, Michigan this weekend. The Sullivan RV CRA Late Model Sportsman Series will be in action Saturday night, while the CRA Super Series will compete on Sunday afternoon in the Independence Day 125. The 3/8 mile D shaped oval features 20 degree banking in the turns with a smooth surface that offers multi-grove racing all the way around the track.

Jason Atkinson comes into Saturday’s event on a roll with three victories so far this season in the five Sullivan RV CRA Late Model Series events held to date, including coming from his 16th place starting position to get the victory Saturday night at Angola Motor Speedway. Atkinson comes into Saturday’s event with a 46 point lead over second place Charlie Hanna. Keith Sterkowitz, who has one series win so far this season, is in third place in points. Mark Lambert is currently in fourth place with rookie competitor Chris Parker in fifth place. Saturday’s event will feature the best of CRA against the best local Sportsman competitors!

Current CRA Super Series point’s leader Scott Hantz tops the list of series competitors entered for this weekend’s series event at M-40 Speedway. Hantz is seeking his fourth series Championship in 2011 and looks to add to his all-time series wins list Sunday and comes into the event as one of the few series regulars with prior experience at M-40, which was in an Outlaw Super Late Model. Terry Fisher Jr. comes into this weekend’s event on a high after getting his first series win in last Sunday’s EMF Richard Poe Memorial 125 at Angola Motor Speedway. Fisher is currently second in series points, 45 points behind Hantz.

Other top CRA Super Series drivers entered for Sunday’s event includes Kenny Tweedy, Jay Niewiek, Nick Gullatta, Damon Ecoff, Jason Dietsch, Rick Turner, Mike Kugler, Aaron Pierce, Brent Jack and Tyler Roahrig. A strong group of Rookie of the Year competitors are entered for Sunday’s event, led by current Rookie Points leader Derrick Griffin from South Bend, Indiana. Fellow rookies Mason Mingus, Matt Hall and Colin Toland are also entered. Lakeland, Florida native Steve Dorer will make his second straight series start Sunday as part of his Michigan vacation plans. John Long makes his 2011 CRA return on Sunday, Long has prior experience at M-40, which he plans to use to his advantage on Sunday. Local competitor Jeff Ganus looks to make his first CRA Super Series start and defend his home turf.

There will be an open practice at M-40 Speedway on Friday from 3 to 8pm. Pits open on Saturday at 2pm. Practice will begin at 3:30pm with qualifying starting at 5:45pm. CRA Super Series teams will be included in the practice rotation on Saturday. The race program will begin on Saturday at 7pm and will include the 75 lap feature event for the Sullivan RV CRA Late Model Sportsman Series along with local M-40 Speedway Pure Stocks and Dwarf cars. There will be a big Fireworks Show to cap off the nights events on Saturday.

Pits will open on Sunday at 8:30am. Practice will begin at 11am with qualifying at 1pm. There will be an On-track Autograph Session at 2pm with the CRA Super Series drivers. The race program on Sunday will begin at 2:30 and will include the Independence 125 for the CRA Super Series along with heats and features for the M-40 Speedway Outlaw Super Late Models and Mini Cups.
