Newport, MI (July, 7, 2011) - The Fourth of July Holiday
Weekend saw Matt Hall and his Matt Hall Motorsports Team make the
short trip to the fast 3/8s (0.375) mile high-banked paved oval of
Angola Motor Speedway in Fremont, Indiana on July 3rd for
the running of the EMF Corporation Richard
Poe Memorial 125.
The Northern Indiana speed plant is one of the few facilities on
the 2011 CRA Super Series schedule that the 18-year-old had raced on
in the past and in turn, he had high hopes that his experience there
would lead to a solid finish and point him in the right direction in
the freshman’s efforts to win the 2011 Rookie of the Year title in the
Salem, Indiana based series.
After Qualifying 10th quick out of the 21-car starting
field, the Newport, Michigan driver would start on the outside of the
fifth row next to veteran Jason Dietsch. After working his way up to
the eighth position, a flat tire proved to be his downfall and in the
end, Hall would be forced to drop out and came home with a
disappointing 16th place finish.
"It was actually a pretty good weekend, all things considered."
Stated Hall. "The Car was good, we had a good qualifying effort, but
we got shuffled back in the start. Managed to work our way back up to
eighth and then the tire went down. We were hoping for a caution to
get it changed, but a long green flag run ruined that idea and then
the brakes went out, so we pulled in."
This Weekend, the CRA Super Series makes their first ever
appearance at the 3/8s (0.375) mile high-banked paved oval of M-40
Speedway, located southwest of Kalamazoo in Jones, Michigan on
Saturday and Sunday, July 9-10th for the running of the
Independence Day 125. After a full day of Practice on Saturday,
Qualifying and the Race will be held on Sunday afternoon. For Hall,
it’s a home state visit he’s looking forward too.
"Overall we were very happy with the strides we made with the car
at Angola and we’re definitely looking forward to this weekend at
M-40." He continued. "A Big Thanks to Dan from Howe Racing Enterprises
for all of his help this past weekend with trying some different
things on the car. We’re really looking forward to this weekend and
hope for a solid finish." He ended.
Heading into M-40, Hall actually climbed up the points standings
ladder and now sits 10th in the overall points chase while
moving up to third in the chase for the 2011 Rookie of the Year title.
Derrick Griffin and Mason Mingus are ahead of Hall in the chase for
the freshman title. In addition, Hall is only 16 markers back of Nick
Gullatta for ninth spot in the overall standings.
