Special from Chad Finley Racing
Hard Crash at Winchester
Speedway Results in Destroyed Racecar for Chad Finley
DeWitt, MI (August 23, 2011) -
Anytime someone goes to the legendary Winchester Speedway in
Winchester, Indiana for the first time, there’s a lot of awe when you
walk into the fast ½ (0.500) mile high-banked paved oval. The history
of the Hoosier State speed plant literally smacks you in
the
face when one thinks of all the greats drivers of yesteryear who have
raced there and those that have visited victory lane. For 19-year-old
Chad Finley, his first ever appearance at Winchester was one he’d like
to forget.
The Winchester 100 Presented by JEGS.com on
August 20th proved costly to the entire Chad Finley Racing
Team as an accident with JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by GM
Performance Parts points leader, Eddie Hoffman resulted in one of the
most spectacular wrecks in the series’ brief history! After contact
was made between the two on lap 67, Finley slammed the turn three
wall, climbed up the fence before barrel-rolled down the track and
completely destroying the car. He was ok after the horrific looking
incident.
"There isn’t enough words that can describe
how ticked off I am right now. There’s only two people driving those
race cars off into that corner and only those two know exactly what
happened. I guarantee you I had no part in causing that wreck!" A
dejected Finley remarked. "We’re a very under-funded team and we
can’t afford to do that. Eddie (Hoffman) knows what he did! You know
what they say what goes around comes around." Finley added.
"Our car is completely destroyed and the
only thing to be thankful for is that I’m okay." He continued. "I'm,
honored from the ton of support we are getting from fans and people
wanting to help us any way they can to get our car fixed. From
donating money for repairs to wanting to come to the shop and help
is pretty awesome. We have had some calls on people wanting to loan us
cars as well until we get ours fixed which is very cool also. Will see
what happens. Hopefully we can make it to Owosso with our car. Chas
and entire Howe team are going to do their best. That’s a huge show
for us, it’s the closest thing to a home track for us in the
JEGS/CRA/GM series and we’ll figure out a way to somehow make it to
that show."
In the end, Finley was shown 16th
in the run down and the accident proved costly in more ways than one.
Going into the race, Finley was third in the points standings and
after the accident, fell all the way down to sixth but only 13 points
out of third as Brandon Watson, Josh Nelms, Brent Downey, and Finley
are all lumped together (601-594-589-588). In addition and due to the
carnage of the race at Winchester, the points spread is even closer
behind Finley as Claude Plante Jr., and Rookie Cody Coughlin are on
the heels of Finley (576-569). Just 32 points separate third through
eighth.
The next race on the JEGS/CRA/GM schedule is
on Saturday, September 3rd at Finley’s home track on the
Salem, Indiana based schedule, Owosso Speedway in Ovid, Michigan as
the Big "O" Classic 100 Presented by JEGS.com will highlight the Labor
Day Holiday Weekend on the fast multi-grooved 3/8s (0.375)
mile high-banked paved oval in Central Michigan, just 20 minutes from
Finley’s race shop.
