Howe CRA Late
Model Sportsman Series at Toledo Speedway Saturday
Salem, IN (September 28, 2010)
– The Howe CRA Late Model Sportsman Series will have its first ever
event at Toledo Speedway, located in Toledo, Ohio, this Saturday as a
support division for the famed Glass City 200 for Outlaw Super Late
Models. The event will feature the best of the Howe CRA Late Model
Sportsman Series against the best Toledo Sportsman Division drivers,
plus many drivers from the Michigan, Ohio and Northern Indiana areas
are expected to compete with many tracks in those areas already
finished with their regular seasons.
To date
this
super competitive series has had 10 different winners in the 10 events
so far this season. South Bend, Indiana’s Derrick Griffin won the
series last event at O’Reilly Raceway Park on September 18th.
Other series winners in 2010 include Keith Sterkowitz, Al Cook Jr.,
Eric Evans, Charlie Hanna, Steve Minich Jr., Rick Rinehart, Brett
Robinson, Ron Maynard Jr. and Scott Neal.
2009 series Champion Charlie Hanna
comes into Saturday’s event with a 67 point lead over Sterkowitz the
2006 series Champion. Hanna is seeking to become the first ever two
time Champion for the series. Hanna had to get some help at the ORP
event after losing an engine in practice. Mt. Lawn Speedway regular
competitor Willie Mefford let Hanna use his car to get a 10th
place finish and keep a good size points lead with only two point
events left in the 2010 season.
Jason Atkinson is currently third in
series points, he is 38 points behind Sterkowitz. Cook Jr. is fourth
in series points, he is 13 points behind Atkinson. Mark Lambert is
currently fifth in series points, 54 points behind Cook Jr. David
Campbell is the series leading rookie, he is currently eighth in
series points and has already locked up the 2010 Rookie of the Year
Award for the series.
Jim Froling was the 2010 Toledo
Sportsman Series points Champion, it was his second track title in his
career at the Glass City oval. Veteran Ron Allen was second, rookie
Kyle Delisle Jr. was third, Scott Lockenour was fourth and Kenny McKay
Jr. was fifth.
There will be an open practice on
Friday, pits open at 1pm, open practice will go from 5 to 7pm. There
will be a pre-race party at the Speedway Bar and Grill after Friday’s
practice session. Pit gates open on Saturday at 9:30am. Practice will
begin at 12noon with qualifying at 3pm. The race program will begin at
5pm and will include the R & M Recycling 50 for the Howe CRA Late
Model Sportsman Series.
