Dates Announced
for SpeedFest 2011 at Lanier National Speedway
Salem, IN (September 23, 2010)
- Officials from the CRA Super Series and Lanier National Speedway
announced today that SpeedFest 2011 would take place again at Lanier
National Speedway on January 28, 29 and 30, 2011. The event is held
each year on the weekend before the Super Bowl. The traditional season
opening North-South Super Late Model battle began seven years ago at
the now closed USA International Speedway in Florida.
With USA International Speedway’s closure, teams and fans were looking
for a new home for the event and found it beginning in 2009 at Lanier
National Speedway located just northeast of Atlanta, Georgia.
"We are pleased to be able to
announce that SpeedFest 2011 will return to Lanier National Speedway,"
said Lanier National Speedway owner Donnie Clack. "We look forward to
some great racing that weekend, like we have had at the past two
events. This is a great opportunity for fans to come see some of the
best racers in the country and get an early start to the 2011 race
season!"
NASCAR Star Kyle Busch has put his
name in the record books as the first two-time winner of SpeedFest,
taking the wins in both the last two SpeedFest Super Late Model events
held at Lanier National Speedway. Busch led 214 laps in last season’s
event, getting the win over NASCAR Nationwide Series driver Steven
Wallace in a star filled lineup that included David Stremme, Cale
Gale, Bobby Gill, Chase Elliott, Ryan Blaney, Johanna Long, Jason
Hogan, Jeff Fultz, Bubba Pollard and Johnny VanDoorn. Other past event
winners of SpeedFest includes Charlie Menard in 2005, Mike Fritts in
2006, Eddie Hoffman in 2007 and Jeff Choquette
in
2008.
Kyle Busch battled local start Casey
Roderick for the lead in last seasons Pro Late Model event until
contact late in the event from Busch caused Roderick to spin,
resulting in both cars going to the tail. Greg Simpson inherited the
lead and cruised to the win, giving him his second straight SpeedFest
Pro Late Model victory.
The SpeedFest 2011 event will see the
Super Late Models compete in a 200-lap event under the direction of
CRA’s staff. The Pro Late Models will have a 150-lap event, the staff
at Lanier National Speedway will direct the Pro Late Model portion of
the event using the same Pro Late Model rules as the Snowflake and the
Super Six Series at Lanier. Both events will have halfway breaks. More
details of each event will be released at a later date with the event
entry forms.
There will be an open practice on
Friday, January 28th, pits will open at 10am with rotating
practice from 12 to 5pm. Practice and qualifying will take place on
Saturday, January 29th, with feature events for Legend cars
that evening. The SpeedFest 2011 feature events will be ran on Sunday,
January 30th beginning at 1pm with the 150 lap Pro Late
Model race, which will be followed by the 200 lap SpeedFest Super Late
Model race. More information on SpeedFest 2011 and information on the
