VanDoorn Continues to Pace Championship Standings; Perfect Circle RaceCars Rookie of the Year Standings Tighten Up

Salem, IN (September 1, 2010) - Defending series champion John VanDoorn and his KAOS Motorsports team continues to lead the CRA Super Series championship standings after the most recent event at Columbus Motor Speedway on Saturday, August 28.

The Coopersville, Mich., driver earned a valuable 10 bonus points after scoring his second pole position of the season in the JVM Enterprises/Nelson Kohman 125. He then drove the No. 61 Reaction Snow & Ice Melter/Magic Transportation/Baker Engines Chevrolet to a seventh place finish, his seventh top-10 performance of 2010.

Scott Hantz ranks in second position, 54 markers from the first position. The Angola, Ind., competitor produced his third consecutive podium finish with crossing the finish line in second position at Columbus.

Third in the standings is Tommy St. John, 76 points from the leading VanDoorn. At Columbus, St. John also turned in an impressive performance. He timed in second quickest in his Welch & Wilson Motorsports Chevrolet and finished in fourth spot. St. John is a two-time winner at Winchester Speedway the site of this weekend’s McGunegill Engine Performance 100.

The battle for fourth position is a close one with only 15 points separating Terry Fisher Jr. to seventh ranking Rick Turner. Behind Fisher in the standings is Michigan’s Brian Campbell, who made a big jump in the points after earning his second season victory at Columbus. Campbell is just two points behind Fisher with Jason Dietsch in fifth spot, only eight points from Fisher.

The remainder of the top 10 includes three first year racers Colin Nickolai in eighth position, John Long in ninth and Nick Gullatta in 10th.

In the Perfect Circle Racecars Rookie of the Year standings, John Long holds a seven point advantage over Nick Gullata. The two drivers turned in solid performances at Columbus with Long finishing in 11th and Gullatta posting the fourth fastest qualifying time and recovering from an early race spin to grab ninth place finishing honors. Jay Nieweik is third in the standings with Colin Nickolai in fourth and Tony Dager rounds out the top five.

The CRA Super Series returns to action at Winchester Speedway on Sunday, September 5 and Monday, September 6 in the McGunegill Engine Performance 100.
