The
CRA Super Series returns to one of the historic racetracks on Friday,
October 1 and Saturday, October 2 for All American 400 weekend. The
.596-mile oval will host the 11th event for the series as
it makes its lone visit to the Volunteer State.
McGrath Becomes
75th Driver to Earn First EDCO Welding Fast Time Award
Iowa’s Griffin McGrath made his 2010 debut a successful one as he
scored his first career EDCO Welding Fast Time Award at O’Reilly
Raceway Park on Saturday, September 18. McGrath became the 75th
driver to earn a fast time award after turning a best lap of in 21.564
seconds at 114.524 mph to top the 40 competitors.
Ready to Step In
Josh Hamner, of Chelsea, Ala., planned to attend the Welch & Wilson
Rock N Race 100 and help Stanley Smith and the Express Oil/Vavoline
team. After the first practice, Hamner was asked to take over the
driving duties. After just a few practice laps, Hamner then qualified
fourth, led the opening15 laps and finished an impressive second in
the feature event.
The Trend Continues
John Van Doorn started a
trend when he drove to victory at Toledo Speedway on August 13. He
became the first driver to score repeat feature victories in the CRA
Super Series. Brian Campbell then captured his second series victory
at Columbus on August 28 with VanDoorn winning again at Winchester in
September. Ross Kenseth ran the steak to four races after claiming top
honors at O’Reilly Raceway Park.
Solid Performance
Terry Fisher Jr. finally ended his run of bad luck with a ninth-place
performance at O’Reilly Raceway Park. He started in the 13th
position and after making a pit stop was able to advance to a top-10
at the conclusion of the event.
Impressive Return
Former O’Reilly Raceway Park
winner Evan Jackson finished in the third position driving the David
Stremme Racing entry. Jackson appeared to have one of the quickest
cars during the second half of the race and made many attempts to
improve his position on the .686-mile oval.
"It
was our plan to ride and see what we had for the second half. We had a
decent race but just missed it a little bit. It’s difficult to tune
one in when you race three times in three years," said Jackson.
The
David Stremme Racing entry will compete at Nashville with Bobby
Stremme behind the wheel and David Stremme will take control of the 35
car for the 39th Annual Winchester 400.

Three-time CRA Super Series
Champion Scott Hantz won the CRA Budweiser 150 at the Fairgrounds
Speedway in Nashville, Tenn. on August 24. Hantz got his first Guitar
Trophy in the same event last year, and is now the first two-time CRA
Super Series winner at Nashville.
Hantz started on the outside of the front row took the early lead only
to have Josh Vadnais storm by on the 15th lap. Hantz was not to be
denied, as he stayed close in second then drove by Vadnais on lap 94
to take a lead, which he would not give up. John Bolen was coming on
strong as the race wound down, but could not catch Hantz at the finish
. Boris Jurkovic placed third with Van Doorn credited with fourth
after starting in 23rd. Johanna Long finished in fifth.
"Tire management, we knew it was going to be a long race and we saved
our tires until it got to about 50 to go and took off," said Hantz. "I
would find a good groove and then the sun came out and with the rubber
on the track that groove got slick so I had to find a new one that
worked."
