CRA Divisions Return to the
Highbanks of Winchester Speedway in 2011
Speedway to Have Different
Manager for the Upcoming Season
(Winchester, IN) – Officials
from the Champion Racing Association (CRA) and Winchester Speedway
announced today that CRA Divisions would
once
again be featured prominently in the 2011 Season. Track owner Charlie
Shaw was thrilled with the success of the last two events of the
season that featured participation from all four CRA divisions: the
CRA Super Series Super Late Models, the Howe/CRA Late Model Sportsman,
the CRA Street Stocks and the Vore’s Welding & Steel CRA F.W.D.
Compacts. The 2010 versions of the Labor Day Stock Car Festival and
Winchester 400 Weekends were the most successful events since Shaw
purchased the track in 1997.
The CRA Super Late Model Stars will
be featured three times in 2011. The first
appearance
will be a 100-lap event to kick off the season on Sunday, May 1. The
stars of the Winchester 400 will get their final tune-up Monday,
September 5 with another 100-lap event. The CRA Stars will once again
be featured in the 40th Annual Winchester 400 October
14-16. CRA’s other three divisions will also be with the Super Late
Models for the final two events. Other races for those divisions will
be announced at a later date.
In other news,
Shaw
announced that he would be bringing the management of the track back
in-house after six years of using CRA to manage the track. "The CRA
guys did a lot of great things for us during their tenure, and led the
return to prominence of some very important and successful events for
the Speedway," the Winchester area businessman commented. "They’ve got
a great business of their own to focus on, and I want to put the track
in a position where it is someone’s primary focus. I just want to try
a different direction with the track’s leadership, building off the
accomplishments that CRA has had and the
groundwork they have laid for even more success."
CRA officials leave the track
management of Winchester Speedway confident of the
legacy of their tenure. "We came to the track to manage it after it
was closed following years of operation that failed to meet the goals
necessary to keep the doors open," noted CRA co-owner and founder R.
J. Scott. "The race track is very important to us personally as fans
and as racing professionals. We wanted to do whatever we could to keep
the doors open and the track up and running. We are pleased with the
achievements recognized during our time as managers of the track. We
came in when the doors were closed and we leave
right
after having the track’s two most successful and profitable events
since Charlie has owned the track. I am not ashamed to say that we and
our staff leave pretty proud!"
CRA co-owner and series director
Glenn Luckett noted further, "The primary focus of our business has
always been as a sanctioning body rather than track management.
Although we felt we’ve had some great successes, we wish Charlie the
best of luck with his new direction and are happy to still be a part
of Winchester Speedway with all the races that we will be sanctioning
there next year. We thank Charlie for the opportunity to be a big part
of Winchester Speedway history and we look forward to seeing his plans
and how they can make the future of the Speedway even brighter."
