Continues to Leads Perfect Circle Racecars Rookie of the Year
Standings
Salem, IN (October 8, 2010) –
With a second half of the season surge, Ohio driver Nick Gullatta
heads into the final CRA Super Series points event of the season next
weekend with a 47 point lead in the Perfect Circle Racecars Rookie of
the Year Standings. Gullatta looks to add his name to the list of
outstanding racers who have been CRA Super Series Rookie of the Year
Award winners, which started with Spanks Overbeck in 1998. The other
former series Rookie of the Year Award winners since then include 1999
winner Peter Cozzolino, 2000 winner Scott Hantz, 2001 winner Joel
Kauffman, 2002 winner Andy Ponstein,
2003
winner Chuck Barnes Jr., 2004 winner Chris Gabehart, 2005 winner Tommy
St. John, 2006 winner Danny Jackson, 2007 winner John Van Doorn, 2008
winner Aaron Pierce, and 2009 winner Tyler Roahrig.
Next weekend’s 39th Annual
Winchester 400 Presented By EDCO Welding & Hydraulics and WMDH will be
the 12th points event of the 2010 season. The highest
finishing registered rookie in the Perfect Circle Racecars Rookie of
the Year Standings, which will be the driver who accumulates the most
points in their best 10 series point races of the 12 events held in
2010, will receive the Perfect Circle Racecars Rookie of the Year
Award at the 2010 Champion Racing Association Awards Banquet.
Gullatta’s adjusted points to date
are 645, his two lowest point events that he has dropped so far are a
0 in an event he missed and a 50. Fellow Ohio driver Colin Nickolai is
in second place with 598 adjusted points, Nickolai is the only rookie
to compete in every series points event during the season. 16-year-old
Michigan driver Jay Niewiek is in third place with 590 adjusted
points. Niewiek missed the first two point events of the season and is
competing in his first season in a full size racecar. Early season
rookie points leader John Long of Michigan has fallen to fourth place
in points with 554 adjusted points after missing three series events
so far this season.
Gullatta’s R & D Racing Team, owned
by Stan and Judi Rosen, has made a complete turn around from earlier
in the season when the team struggled to even be competitive. The team
has been the Perfect Circle Racecars Rookie of the Race Award winner
five of the last seven series events and had a series high finish of
fourth at the August 13th Toledo Speedway event and a ninth
place finish at Columbus Motor Speedway.
Long has been the Perfect Circle
Racecars Rookie of the Race Award winner at three series events to
date. Niewiek has won the award at two events this season including
last week’s 200 lap All American 400 event at the legendary
Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville. Tony Dager won the award at the series
season opener at Anderson Speedway in April.
