Winchester Owes Mason Mingus
If a racetrack ever “owed” a driver a
good
finish,
Mason Mingus figures Winchester Speedway certainly owes him one.
After fighting his way to through the field in a CRA Super Series
Late Model event at the famed speedway earlier this year, the tough
track took a toll on Mingus’ #98 when an axle housing broke while he
was running in third place. Fortunately, Mingus managed to keep the
car off the wall and no major damage was done.
“That was a tough deal,” Mingus recalled. “We only had a handful of
laps left and we were feeling really good about the possibility of
getting a top three finish. But it just goes to show you that in
racing it’s not over until you go under the checkered flag.
Hopefully we can have an equally good run in our Tennessee/Kentucky
Dial 811 Before You Dig Late Model, but close the deal this time.”
Mingus, who won the Ken Ten Pro Late Model Championship this year,
has raced in several CRA events this season and said he is looking
forward to the 400 this weekend.
“When you race in the CRA, you know you’re racing
against
some of the best drivers and teams in short track racing,” Mingus,
who will celebrate his 16th birthday in November, said. “We’ve had a
good season so far and are really looking forward to racing several
more times this season.”
After a second place Pro Late Model finish during the All American
400 Weekend at Nashville and winning the Ken Ten championship,
Mingus said he is working on a deal to run several more races this
season.
“But right now we are concentrating on the Winchester 400,” Mingus
said. “While we realize a racetrack never really owes a driver
anything, a good finish would really help propel our team through
the remainder of this year and even give us a hand up for next
season.”
