Association to Crown a NATIONAL Super Late Model Champion in 2011
Races from Both North
and South Series will be used to Determine a National Champion
Salem, IN (November 19, 2010)
– Officials from Champion Racing Association (CRA) announced today the
details of a "National Super Late Model Challenge" which will crown a
National Super Late Model Champion in 2011. Plans call for a champion
to be determined by using the racers best four finishes from CRA
Southern races and best four finishes from the CRA Super Series North
races.
"This is a
great
opportunity to bring more recognition to the talented drivers we have
racing Super Late Models on the short tracks across America," noted
CRA founder and managing partner R. J. Scott. "This program of using a
drivers best four finishes from the North and the South, allows
them to still focus on their regional racing, and recognizes the teams
that choose to battle outside of their area to be viewed as the
Nation’s best."
CRA will once again have two regional
championships that teams from the North and South can compete in. The
CRA Super Series, which operates in the Midwest, is the oldest
continuously run Super Late Model Series in the country. Johnny
VanDoorn is coming off his 2nd consecutive championship
with the series that started in 1997. At the annual awards banquet in
January, Ryan Blaney will also be crowned as a CRA Champion with his
title in the CRA Southern 6-Pack tour. "A year from now," Scott
further noted, "we will be talking about a third, and possibly more
important title…that of ‘National Champion’."
According to CRA co-owner and Series
Director Glenn Luckett, there may be more than just bragging rights on
the line for those that challenge for the National Title. "We
currently have a couple of proposals on the table to bring some
incredible awards and accolades to the National Champion and possibly
another driver in the top ten of the final National standings," he
stated. "There are currently a core group of drivers that focus on
racing in their area, but do some traveling as well, and we think that
is the group that we want to bring this special recognition to, and
possibly some very special and meaningful awards."
The full schedules have not yet been
released, but the North series will again have a similar looking
schedule with 12 to 14 races. The CRA Southern Tour will once again
have only six to eight races. Fortunately for the Northern teams, many
of the South races will be before or after their North schedule.
Performance and attendance at the South races will be critical, as
there are limited opportunities to earn points in the South. The first
race to earn points in pursuit of a "National Championship" will be at
the traditional season opener, "SpeedFest" at Lanier National Speedway
during the last weekend in January.
