Car Owner Floyd Fehl Passes
Ft. Wayne, IN (June 2, 2010) –
CRA Super Series car owner Floyd Fehl of Ft. Wayne, Indiana passed
away this morning at Lutheran Hospital in Ft. Wayne. Fehl had been ill
the past several months and had been hospitalized last Friday. Racing
was Floyd’s passion in life. Floyd began his racing career in 1970 as
a car
owner
and driver. Floyd’s first racecar was a 1956 Ford #7 in the
Hobby Stock class at Baer Field Raceway in Ft. Wayne. He continued to
drive for himself for the next five years.
After his driving career ended Floyd
became a full time car owner of Fehl Motorsports and was one of the
original car owners with the Indiana Late Model Series when it started
in 1997. Royce Mason finished fourth in Floyd’s car in the series
second ever event on May 4th, 1997 at Salem Speedway, which
was Floyd’s first series event he participated in.
Floyd continued to be a car owner in
what has now became the CRA Super Series. Through the years, some of
Floyd’s drivers included Warren Howard, Joe Wallace, Cecil Gordon,
Royce Mason, Jimmy Spillers, Steve Christman, Ron Dantzer, Terry
Fisher, Tommy Cook, Al Cook Jr., Bud Adams, Kenny Tweedy and Zach
Hulvey. Floyd’s latest driver was Corey Setser who started his first
ever CRA Super Series event for Floyd at Winchester Speedway on
Sunday, May 16th were he finished 15th after
starting 24th, in what was the last race Floyd got to watch
his car race at one of his favorite race tracks.
"It is a sad day for the CRA Super
Series," remarked Glenn Luckett, Series Director. "Luckily I got to
see Floyd yesterday afternoon, he still had that glitter in his eye
when we started talking about racing. He really wanted to come to our
July 3rd event at Angola Motor Speedway, now he will have
the best seat in the house to watch it, from above. We would ask that
everyone please keep Floyd’s family and friends in your thoughts and
prayers as they go though this difficult time."
More information on Floyd Fehl’s
arrangements will be announced when they are finalized.
