Speedway to Feature CRA Doubleheader Events This Weekend
Salem, IN (June 29, 2010) –
Angola Motor Speedway will be the site of a CRA doubleheader this
weekend as the Howe CRA Late Model Sportsman
Series
will race this Friday night July 2nd while the CRA Super
Series will make its annual July 4th Weekend stop on
Saturday night. The Howe CRA Late Model Sportsman race is a
rescheduled event from May 1st that was postponed because
of rain.
Friday night’s event will be a total
new event for the Howe CRA Late Model Sportsman Series after the
series got through practice, qualifying and two laps into the feature
before persistent rain caused the event to be postponed on May 1st.
Tony Dager was the Allstar Performance Parts Fast Qualifier of the 28
cars that were on hand for that event. Friday’s race will be the third
series event ever held at Angola Motor Speedway. Last year Steve
Minich Jr.
took
the lead on lap 46 then had to hold off hard charging Tony Dager to
get the win. Billy Hutson finished in third, Lou Stremme in fourth and
Rick Rinehart in fifth.
2009 series Champion Charlie Hanna
comes into Friday’s event as the series new points leader after
winning last Saturday night’s event at Anderson Speedway. Former
points leader Jason Atkinson is now second, he is 10 points behind
Hanna. Al Cook Jr. has moved into third place, he is 14 points behind
Atkinson. 2006 series Champion Keith Sterkowitz’s recent bad luck has
dropped him to fourth in series points, he is 16 points behind Cook
Jr. Mark Lambert is in fifth place, four points behind Sterkowitz.
Stroh, Indiana racer Mike Kugler
started in 13th place in last years EMF Corp 125 for
the
CRA Super Series, he steadily worked his way through the field to pass
Scott Hantz for the lead on lap 101, then held off Jack Landis to get
his first ever CRA victory. Derek Bischak finished in third, Hantz was
fourth and Jason Shively fifth. Angola native Hantz is the all time
series victory leader at Angola Motor Speedway with four wins in the
13 series events that have been held there.
There are several former CRA Super
Series Angola winners entered for Saturday night’s event including
Hantz, Kugler, Jeff Lane, JR Roahrig and Kenny Tweedy. Other series
regulars entered include 2009 Series Champion and current points
leader John VanDoorn, also Rick Turner, Brian Campbell, Jason Dietsch,
Jason Shively, Terry Fisher Jr., Tommy St. John, Nick Lay, Jim
Crabtree Jr., Tyler Roahrig, Adam Purdy and Aaron Pierce. Several top
series rookies are also entered including Perfect Circle Racecars
Rookie Points leader John Long, other rookies entered include Colin
Nickolai, Nick Gullatta, Tony Dager and Jay Niewiek.
Lakeland, Florida native Steve Dorer
gets the long haul award for Saturday’s event making the trip from
Florida to race with the CRA Super Series. The former Michigan native
will be in Michigan for the month of July and will compete in a couple
of series events during his stay. Several drivers will make their
first starts of the 2010 season with the series including Tyler
Knuckles, Matt Hall and Kevin Todd.
Friday night will be ProFab "Pack the
House Night" at Angola Motor Speedway with a special admission price
of $20 a carload. Pit gates open at 1pm, racers need to remember to
bring their armbands from the May 1st postponed event to exchange for
an armband for Friday night. There will be open practice for the CRA
Super Series cars starting at 3pm. Practice for the Howe CRA late
Model Sportsman Series will be at 4:45pm. Qualifying begins at 5:30pm.
The race program begins at 7pm and will include heat races and the
ProFab 75 for the Howe CRA Late Model Sportsman Series along with
heats and a feature for the Angola Modifieds.
Pits open Saturday at 1pm, practice
begins at 3pm with qualifying at 5:15pm. The race program will begin
at 7pm and will include the EMF Corp 125 for the CRA Super Series
along with heats and features for the Angola FWD’s and Mini Stocks
along with Legend Cars. The Holiday Weekend event will be capped off
with a Fireworks Show after the racing events on Saturday night.
