Hoosier to Provide a More Competitive
Tire for Howe/CRA Late Model Sportsman
Salem, IN (July 21, 2010) -
Champion Racing Association, in conjunction with Hoosier Racing Tire,
announced today the introduction of a new tire for Howe/CRA Late Model
Sportsman competition.
The new Hoosier 650 will be designated for use following the
next event at Anderson Speedway on Saturday, July 31st. Hoosier is
gearing up for production of the new tire in the next two weeks.
The new Hoosier 650 is very similar to
the current Hoosier 700 that was released by Hoosier this year. The
new tire uses a different compound as well as a new, technically
advance sidewall material to assist in speed and, more importantly,
durability. Following events at Winchester Speedway this weekend,
officials determined for competitive and durability issues the 650 was
an option that the racers needed to have.
"The Hoosier 700 is a great tire for a
spec tire, in fact its probably one of the best tires designed by
Hoosier in recent years," noted CRA managing partner R. J. Scott.
"But our environment recently has been to allow racers to come from
different places with different tires and the Hoosier 700 was supposed
to be the option to compete with the current Goodyear allowed. After
finishing up at Winchester Sunday, and seeing the wear on the
Goodyears, and the speed being sought by the racers, we decided to go
to a better Hoosier tire to be on the speed level of the Goodyear, but
potentially more durable, and saving the racers money in the long
run."
Scott went on to add, "We've haven't had
a single tire/spec tire rule in the series since its inception, but it
certainly looks like that's on the horizon for next year. We'll use
the rest of the year to see if this Hoosier 650 is the tire that is
right for our one spec tire for next year."
Officials also noted that the
competitors currently on the 700's will still be able to use them, and
in an effort to equalize the competition, the 700 will receive a 25
pound weight break. Teams using the Goodyear and the new Hoosier 650
will continue at the same weights.
