34th Annual "Rattler 250" to Showcase More
Improvements to South Alabama Speedway
Opp, AL (January
15, 2010) - For the past 33 "Rattlers" South Alabama Speedway fans
and teams have gotten to see some of the most exciting short track
racing around. The 33rd and 34th editions have
also been used to showcase the many improvements to the facility.
Prior to last years
event, track owners John and Sandra Dykes made major investments in
their facility that included a new
backstretch
concrete wall, a new paved/concrete pit area on the backstretch and
the installation of a true pit road stretching from the entrance of
turn three through the front stretch and exiting in turn two.
The Dykes family
continued the commitment to building and maintaining a great racing
facility again this year, their 13th season of track
ownership. Since last year’s race and improvements, they have made
five more significant improvements to the facility that was just
repaved 4 years ago.
Improvements on the
fans side of the facility include a remodeled front stretch concession
area and a new 500-seat section of bleachers on the turn one end of
the front stretch. On the competitors’ side, the track replaced the
remaining guardrail in turn two with a new concrete wall and widened
the entrance to pit road to make for an easier transition from the
racetrack to pit road. Additionally, the Dykes family added a 250-seat
pit bleacher section on the turn three end of the backstretch.
"We love this place,"
noted John Dykes while taking a break from finishing up the new turn
two wall. "It is important to us to have a place that our racers and
fans can be proud and the feed back we get from everyone makes it all
worthwhile...its time for everyone to get their butts down here and
see our place!"
The Dykes family is
excited that the fans and racers will get to the see the improvements
on their biggest weekend of the year March 5-7. The 34th Annual Ratter
250 will pay a record purse with 50 plus entries, with one Super Late
Model driver having a chance to take home over $30,000 in cash in
prizes.
While the 34th
annual Rattler is still eight weeks away, entries are starting to come
in on a daily basis as the date of entry determines qualifying and
tire selection order. For more information about the Rattler 250
