CRA Super Series
Set to Return to Columbus Motor Speedway Saturday
Salem, IN (August 24, 2010) –
The CRA Super Series will head back to the state of Ohio this Saturday
for it’s second event of the season in the buckeye state at Columbus
Motor Speedway. The series last competed on the tight quarter mile in
June of 2007 when Robbie Pyle got his first ever series victory. The
former ASA Racing Series competitor was a regular competitor at
Columbus Motor Speedway for several years before moving up to compete
full time with ASA for several seasons. The Columbus native now
resides in Illinois but still says Columbus is home.
He will be on hand to defend his win this Saturday.
Saturday’s event will be the seventh
appearance for the series at Columbus. The series has a very
impressive list of winners at Columbus, besides Pyle other winners
include Canadian Motorsports Hall of Fame driver Junior Hanley, also
Scott Hantz, Bobby Parsley, Jack Landis and Fred Campbell. Hantz is
the only other former winner who is entered for Saturday’s race.
2009 Series Champion John VanDoorn
comes into Saturday’s event with a 61 point lead over Hantz in series
Championship points. VanDoorn became the series first two-time winner
in 2010 with his victory in the series last event on August 13th
at Toledo Speedway. Hantz is in second place despite missing the
series first event of the season, he has five series events left to
catch VanDoorn.
Tommy St. John is currently in third
place in series points, he is 19 points behind Hantz. Terry Fisher
Jr., is fourth in points, he is only 10 points behind St. John. Rick
Turner is fifth in series points, only three points behind Fisher Jr.
The rest of the top ten include Jason Dietsch sixth, Brian Campbell
seventh, rookie Colin Nickolai eighth, Tyler Roahrig ninth and Jason
Shively is tenth. Everyone in the top ten is entered for Saturday’s
race except Roahrig and Shively.
Other top series drivers who are
entered include Nick Lay, Jim Crabtree and series rookies John Long,
Nick Gullatta and Jay Niewiek. There will also be several Ohio drivers
competing including Justin Alsip, Mike Rush, Jamie Hunt, Tyler Nuckles,
Jared Marks, Sloan Henderson, David Carter, and Rob Jones. Berlin
Raceway Outlaw Late Model point’s leader Terry VanHaitsma will make
his first Columbus CRA start on Saturday night as will former Illiana
Motor Speedway competitor Jack Kalwasinski.
Saturday’s event will be on an
earlier time schedule then Columbus Motor Speedway usually has because
of a free Blue Oyster Cult Concert that will take place next-door to
the track Saturday night. Pits will open at 11am on Saturday, practice
will begin at 1pm with CRA qualifying at 3:30pm. The race program will
begin at 4pm and will include the 125 lap CRA Super Series event. More
