Winchester Speedway set for 2010 Season
Opener with Three CRA Divisions
Winchester, IN (April 27, 2010) –
Winchester Speedway is set to kick off its 2010
racing
schedule with the season opener this Sunday, May 2. High Bank racing
fans will get a triple treat of CRA stock car action with the CRA
Super Series late models in the Manning Service 100 along with action
from the CRA Street Stocks and Vore’s
Welding & Steel CRA FWD Compacts.
In last seasons Manning Service 100,
three-time series Champion Scott Hantz passed early leader Jeff Lane
to get the victory. Hantz was the EDCO Welding Fast Qualifier toping a
field of 24 cars. Hantz started fifth after drawing a five for the
events
invert. Jeff Lane took advantage of his front row starting position to
grab the early lead. It didn’t take long for Hantz to work his way to
Lane’s bumper. Hantz worked for several laps trying to pass Lane
before getting by on lap 43, from there Hantz cruised to a four second
victory. The victory was the third series win at Winchester Speedway
for Hantz placing him in a tie with Bull Baker and Brian Ross for the
most series victories at Winchester.
The Manning Service 100 will be the
second event of the 2010 season for the CRA Super Series. 2009 series
Champion Johnny VanDoorn
won
the season opener on April 17th at Anderson Speedway and
comes into Sunday’s event as the series point’s leader. VanDoorn and
the Kaos Motorsports team are trying to become the only team and
driver to win back-to-back CRA Super Series Championships.
VanDoorn and Hantz lead the list of
entries for Sunday’s Manning Service 100. Other series notables
entered includes former Winchester CRA winners Rick Turner, Tommy St.
John and Jeff Lane. Also entered are Kenny Tweedy, Tyler Roahrig,
Jason Dietsch, Jason Shively, Terry Fisher Jr., Aaron Pierce, John
Heck, Eddie Van Meter, Jim Crabtree Jr., Adam Purdy, Damon Ecoff, Nick
Lay and Brandon Fagin. New series full-time competitor Brian Campbell
will make his first start on the High Banks Sunday. A strong 2010
Rookie class will test the High Banks on Sunday including Colin
Nickolai, Martin Belcher, John Long and Nick Gullatta, a former ARCA
Truck Series winner at Winchester.
14-year-old Chase Elliott will be
competing in Sunday’s event as a tune up for the 39th
Annual Winchester 400 on October 17th. Elliott’s dad,
“Awesome Bill
from
Dawsonville”, will be spotting for Chase on Sunday, both father and
son will also host an autograph session for the fans attending
Sunday’s event immediately following CRA Super Series qualifying which
is scheduled to begin at 1pm.
Former NASCAR Truck Series competitor
Joey Miller will make a return to the seat of a late model in Sunday’s
event. The Lakeville, Minnesota native was also a competitor in the
old ASA Tour and in the ARCA Series, has not raced in several seasons,
but looks to run Sunday to get laps before the Winchester 400.
15-year-old Brentwood, Tennessee native Mason Mingis will make his
first ever start at Winchester Speedway on Sunday. The teenager will
be in a car owned by multi-time Salem Speedway Late Model Championship
Owner Kevin Gardner and will have former Winchester winner and CRA
Super Series Champion Chuck Barnes Jr. turning the wrenches and on the
radio as a driver coach.
The CRA
Street Stocks and Vore’s Welding & Steel CRA FWD Compacts will both be
back in action on Sunday after their season openers at Plymouth
Speedway on April 11th. A full field of cars is expected in
each division. Scott Neal currently leads the CRA Street Stocks in
points after a second place finish at Plymouth. Dave Bice leads the
FWD Compacts points after getting the victory for car owner Blaine
Miller at Plymouth.
BBC Vision
Productions from London, England will be on hand filming 13-year-old
CRA FWD Compact driver Stephanie Beane
this
weekend for their primetime BBC 1 series 'Human', which focuses on the
incredible form and function of the human body. Fantastic human
stories from across the globe and cutting edge CGI will be used
throughout. The show will be broadcast worldwide for the BBC and The
Learning Channel (TLC).
There will be
an open practice on Saturday at Winchester Speedway, pits open at
11am, practice will run from 1pm until 5pm. Pit gates will open
on Sunday at 8:30am, spectator gates at 10am with practice beginning
at 10:30am. Qualifying will follow at 12:15pm. The race program will
begin at 2pm with heat races from the Vores Welding & Steel CRA FWD
Compacts and CRA Street Stocks followed by the Vores Welding & Steel
20 for the Vores Welding & Steel CRA
