Muncie, IN (April 12, 2010) With the
first race of the season in the books following completion of CRA’s
Cabin Fever 200 at Plymouth Speedway, it’s easy to look at the results
to see where the top racers are finding the power to put them at the
front. McGunegill Engine Performance (MEP) engines took more in the
top three than any other engine builder. A victory in the Howe CRA
Late Model Sportsman and a second and third in the CRA Street Stocks
has set the tone for where power and performance will come from in
2010: McGunegill Engine Performance.
In the Howe/CRA
Late
Model Sportsman feature, former series champion Keith Sterkowitz
bested a stellar field of cars to score his first ever series victory
and serve notice that he and his MEP powered team plan to stay at the
top all season. Sterkowitz started in tenth position after qualifying
third fastest, steadily worked his way through the field, then drove
away in the late stages of the race with power from his McGunegill
Sealed Engine for the Sportsman division. His engine package is a wet
sump version the popular and successful Super Late Model McGunegill
Sealed Engine that has powered many teams to victories and
championships in Super Late Model racing.
In CRA Street Stock action, MEP engines built
specifically for street stock racing in the Midwest showed their
strength, led by a second place finish by Scott Neal. Neal started
ninth after just missing out on establishing a new track record in his
first ever visit to the 3/8 mile track. Like Sterkowitz, he too worked
his way through the field but ran out of laps in an effort overcome
the winner that started on the pole. The impressive season opening run
for the part-time CRA competitor comes after a stretch last year when
he won the $5000 to win 300-lap event at Anderson Speedway, a second
place in the Firecracker 200 at Salem Speedway and being the first to
cross the line in the $5000 to win Street Stock race at Mansfield
Motorsports Park, with…you guessed it, McGunegill power under the
hood.
Following Neal to the line in the Street Stock
portion of the Cabin Fever 200 was Bret Miles Jr. The 2008 Series
champion will take the early lead in the point standings of the CRA
regulars in 2010. The third generation driver used an MEP engine in
his first CRA championship as well.
