CRA Late Model
Sportsman, Street Stocks and FWD Compacts all in Action at Winchester
Speedway this Weekend
Salem, IN (September 30, 2009)
– The Howe CRA Late Model Sportsman Series, CRA Street Stocks and
Vore’s Welding & Steel CRA FWD Compacts will all return to action this
Saturday and Sunday
with
the Old Timers Weekend event on the famous High Banks of Winchester
Speedway. The event is a two day show with HOSS Outlaw Winged Sprints,
CRA Street Stocks, Mt. Lawn Motion Motor Late Models and a Vore’s
Welding & Steel CRA FWD Compacts "New Star" event on Saturday, October
3rd. The USAC National Sprint Cars, Howe CRA Late Model
Sportsman Series and the Vore’s Welding & Steel CRA FWD Compacts will
all be racing on Sunday, October 4th. There will be vintage
racecars on display and on the track on both days.
Charlie Hanna comes into this
weekend’s event as the point’s leader with the Howe CRA Late Model
Sportsman Series for the second
straight
event. Hanna’s second place finish at the series last event, coupled
with Steve Minich Jr.’s inability to race at Anderson because of
damage from the Labor Day Weekend event, gives Hanna a 53 point lead
with only two points events left in the 2009 season. Rookie Steve
Stacy got the win at Anderson, his first ever series victory, he is
now in second place in series points. The number 17 car owned by John
Marshall is in third place, 33 points behind Stacy. Minich Jr. is
fourth place, 39 points behind the 17. Ric Pfiefer is in fifth place,
he is 19 points behind Minich Jr. Terry Jones has won the last two
series events at Winchester Speedway including the Labor Day Weekend
event.
The point’s battle in the CRA Street
Stocks is much closer coming into this weekend’s event.
Two-time
series Driver Champion Joe Beaver is leading the series points by 19
over second place Josh Burton, who is only one point ahead of third
place Jason Thompson. Rich Boyer, the winner of the last series event
at Winchester Speedway on Labor Day, is in fourth place, 15 points
behind Thompson. Only 35 points separates first place and fourth place
with only two events left in the 2009 season. Coming into this
weekend’s event, there have been nine different winners in the series
nine point events so far this season. Race winners to date include
Beaver, Burton, Thompson, Boyer, Winston Wood, Scott Neal, Robbie
Henderson, Rick Erwin and Ronnie Rose.
Tim Dilg has a commanding
91
point lead in the Vore’s Welding & Steel CRA FWD Compacts points with
only two point events left in the 2009 season including Sunday’s
event. 2008 series Champion Rex Zimmerman is in second. Brian Redmond
is in third place, he is ten points behind Zimmerman. Leading rookie
Justin Brown is in fourth place, he is only three points behind
Redmond after getting three straight third place finishes in the last
three series events. Fellow rookie Jeff Williams is in fifth place, he
is 23 points behind Brown.
Pit gates open on Saturday at 10am.
Practice will begin at 12:30pm with qualifying at 3:30pm. The race
program will begin at 5pm, which will include a 30 lap feature and
heat races for the HOSS Outlaw Winged Sprints, 40 lap features and
heat races for the CRA Street Stocks and Motion Motor Late Models and
the 20 lap Vore’s Welding & Steel CRA FWD Compacts "New Star" Feature.
Pits open on Sunday at 9am. Practice
will begin at 11am with qualifying at 1pm. The race program will begin
at 2pm and will include a 40 lap feature and heat races for the USAC
National Sprint Cars, a 40 lap feature and heat races for the Howe CRA
Late Model Sportsman Series, and a 20 lap feature and heat races for
the Vore’s Welding & Steel CRA FWD Compacts. The vintage cars will
take laps on the track on both days prior to the feature events
beginning.
