USAC Sprint Cars Gear Up for Old-Timers Weekend at Winchester

HOSS Outlaw Winged Sprints to Replace Midgets on Saturday

Winchester, IN (September 11, 2009) – The USAC National Sprint Cars return to Winchester (Ind.) Speedway on Sunday, October 4, for the annual "Winchester Old-Timers Weekend," showcasing the stars and cars of today while also featuring the cars which formed the backbone of the series and competed at the half-mile paved oval in past years.

A 40-lap feature race is on tap for the Sprint cars, which will be making their second appearance of 2009 at the historic oval. Tracy Hines captured the "Rich Vogler Classic" at Winchester in July in dramatic fashion taking the lead from Cole Whitt on lap 37. The 2009 National Sprint Car events at Winchester Speedway are 40 laps, which is an increase from the 30 lap features in previous years, the additional 10 laps were added to increase exciting racing for the fans.

"Winchester Speedway has long been a staple for USAC racers and has produced some exciting competition and world record speeds," says USAC President Kevin Miller. "We are excited about being a part of this American Motorsports showcase and value our relationship with the track and it organizers."

Officials of USAC have decided to postpone, for 2009, the USAC Mopar National Midget Series portion of the weekend activities, originally scheduled for Saturday, October 3.  "When they bring the midgets back to Winchester they want to come with both barrels loaded, and hopefully that will be in 2010," noted Winchester co-promoter R. J. Scott.

Filling the slot in Old-Timers Weekend on Saturday night will now be the H.O.S.S. Winged Sprints. The stars that battle for the Annual "King of the Wings" title at Winchester will now be on the same weekend with the USAC National Sprint Cars. Tampa, Florida’s David Steele is the reigning "King."

"It’s a great opportunity for our fans to get a double dose of Sprint Cars in one weekend," noted track owner Charlie Shaw. "I wouldn’t be surprised to see some drivers do double duty and race with and without a wing over the course of the weekend." Also racing over the two days will be the CRA Street Stocks, Howe/CRA Late Model Sportsman, Vores Welding & Steel CRA FWD Compacts and the Motion Motor Late Models (featured weekly at Mt. Lawn Speedway).

While racing will provide most of the fun on the racetrack, off the track fun will be highlighted by the "Old-Timers" vintage racecar display and laps on the track along with camping and a Saturday night party in the pavilion.
