Tyler Roahrig A Rookie with Roots in Racing

Salem, In (October 30, 2009) – Tyler Roahrig is the son of a long time competitor, JR Roahrig with the CRA Super Series and the nephew of a well known former late model racer, Dave Roahrig. He has been coming to the track with his father for many years, and is a familiar face in the pits at Super Series races. With this linage he would seem destined do very well in late model racing and he has not disappointed. In his rookie season with the CRA Super Series Tyler Roahrig finished sixth in the final season standings and took the K&N Filters Rookie of the Year Award for the 2009 season.

The season started with Roahrig finishing 12th at Anderson Speedway, he had started on the outside of the front row during his first Super Series race at Anderson Speedway with the veteran driver Eddie Hoffman on the inside. During the year Roahrig raced well beside the veterans. The last race of the year was the legendary Winchester 400. The Roahrig family now has had three family members that have raced in the event over the years, with Dave having raced in the 70’s, JR the last three and now Tyler in 2009. Roahrig finished 17th after his radiator was damaged during this years 400.

During the season he was the K&N Filters Rookie of the Race six times. He collected the $100 cash bonus and a $25 Product Certificate from K & N Filters and a $50 Product Certificate from VDL Fuel Systems each time.

He had four Top 10 finishes during the season racing against the veteran drivers who race with the CRA cars every week. "I have learned a lot racing against these guys this summer." Roahrig stated. "These are some of the best drivers anywhere, and racing against them was harder than I thought it would be."

Tyler’s father JR Roahrig has been racing with the CRA Super Series for many years and has over 100 starts. This year he raced only a few races while working with Tyler during his rookie year. Having a veteran in the pits helped Tyler as he knew JR and his grandfather, Stan Roahrig, would be able to teach him how to get better.

"I want to thank my Dad, and Grandpa, Jim, Hooven, Andrew and Matt for all the help this summer." Roahrig said. "Racing with the CRA Super Series has made me a better driver when I race at home."

In addition to winning the CRA Super Series K&N Filters Rookie of the year, Roahrig also raced in the Late Model Challenge Series and The Triple Crown Series at Plymouth Speedway. The Late Model Challenge consisted of three races at New Paris Speedway and three races at M-40 Speedway. JR Roahrig was the champion, with Tyler second. JR had two victories, one at each track, with Tyler finishing second behind his father in each race.

In the Triple Crown, Tyler again raced against older more experienced drivers including his father and Jack Landis. Tyler and JR as well as Landis won one of the Triple Crown races, with Tyler taking the champion crown.

Tyler also drove an Outlaw Late Model during the season, setting the track record

at Plymouth Speedway. He finished third at New Paris in the Outlaw car in a strong field with three time CRA Super Series Champion Scott Hantz winning the race.

This winter Roahrig will continue his studies at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis where he is studying mechanical engineering. "School will keep me pretty busy in between races." Roahrig commented.
