Zach Taylor to drive for Tim Steele
in 2009
The 2009 racing season is open and
Zach Taylor has signed with Tim Steele in order to be in the hunt
for Super Late Model racing’s biggest trophies. Taylor, who finished
fifth in the 2008 Champion Racing Association (CRA) points chase
will be behind the wheel of Steele’s red #16 Chevrolet sponsored by
River Hills Lodge, a 16,000-acre hunting complex located in South
Dakota.
According to Steele, Taylor will race
in a selected number of CRA events with an eye aimed at bagging the
limit of big Super Late Model events during and toward the end of
the season.
“We are going to practice a lot and
race in several CRA events plus we are planning on running a few
Blizzard Series races in preparation for the Snowball Derby,” Steele
said. “We’ll also run in the All American at the Nashville
Fairgrounds. And there’ll be a few Outlaw Late Model events with
Zach driving for us.”
Both Taylor and Steele expressed their
optimism about the team’s chances for success in tracking down Super
Late Model racing’s most prominent trophies this season.
“I’m really excited about Tim asking
me to drive for his team,” Taylor, a native of Hartsville,
Tennessee, said. “First off, he’s three-time ARCA champion Tim
Steele and everybody has heard of him, so it’s certainly great to be
associated with him. But, it’s a lot more than just his name. He has
the knowledge, the equipment and the resources to be successful. The
name is great, but Tim can back it all up when it comes to
successfully building and campaigning racecars. I’m really looking
forward to working with him this season.”
Taylor will graduate from Middle
Tennessee State University shortly after his first scheduled start
for Steele on May 3rd at the Fairgrounds Speedway in
Nashville. His plans for entering law school later this year could
be postponed for up to a year.
“I’m really passionate about racing
and I’m anxious to do well and give it my all this season,” he said.
“I know we have a team capable of winning races, so that is my focus
right now.”
Steele said Taylor brings a lot to the
River Hills Lodge team and he is extremely pleased to have him as
the team’s driver.
“I believe that about 97% of a team’s
success has to do with chemistry,” he commented. “I know that we’ll
work well together. With Zach as our driver, we have the final piece
we need to get wins and bag the trophies.”
Steele said he became aware of
Taylor’s driving talent during last season when he watched Taylor
come close to winning several races.
“Zach had some good finishes but I
feel he could have won a couple of races except mechanical problems
and other things kept him out of victory lane,” Steele said. “I
think we can win some races this year. If I didn’t think we could
win with Zach as our driver, I wouldn’t have called him. Every time
you leave the shop heading for a race, you have to know you can win.
With our equipment, our knowledge and our team, I know we can win
races this season.”
