United Super Late Model Racing Association Officials Announce Rule Revision

United Super Late Model Racing Association (USRA) officials announced today a revision in the rules for steel head engines.  In item #2 under the Steel Head rules section, the following line was removed:  "
Stroke must be within .020 of stock stroke for engine used" and replaced with: "Maximum 362 cubic inches. (revised 3-16-09)."

Ricky Brooks, Chief Technical Inspector for CRA South and 5 Flag Speedway's Blizzard Series and Snowball Derby, noted the reason for the change.  "In the process of bringing the rules together from different areas, there was some give and take and efforts to include more cars," Brooks noted today."  "During that process, the goal was to have the more inclusive, non-specific, 362 c.i. rule as the new standardized rule, but we simply failed to include it that way during the process."  For many teams in the North and the South, the updated rule is the way the rule was written previously, and the committee didn't want to put any undue pressure on the teams during the implementation of the new rules package.

The USRA rules package was developed by Brooks, CRA North Chief Inspector Eddie Chew, Five Flags Speedway promoter Tim Bryant and CRA Series co-owner R. J. Scott.  The simple goal of the group was to create a package that allowed racers to compete at many more events with the same rules package.
