FORMER
WINNER HAROLD FAIR WILL COMPETE IN REDBUD 300
ANDERSON ,
Ind. (June 11, 2009) – Anderson Speedway and CRA Super Series Late
Model officials announced today that 1990 race winner Harold Fair will
compete in the Redbud 300 presented by Great Deals Coupon Magazine on
Tuesday, June 16.
Fair, of Detroit, Mich., is
the third former ASA racer that will be part of next
Tuesday’s
CRA Super Series Late Model event that celebrates ASA’s heritage. Fair
joins current NASCAR superstar Kyle Busch and two-time ASA National
Tour Champion Gary St. Amant who have previously committed to race in
the Redbud 300.
One of Harold Fair’s
biggest victories in racing took place at Anderson Speedway, when he
earned the 1990 Anderson 400 victory. Fair led the race on two
occasions for 163 laps and made the race winning pass on Wisconsin
standout Scott Hansen on the 278th circuit. At the finish,
Hansen crossed the line in second position with Rich Bickle in third.
Fair competed in ASA’s
annual event at Anderson on 17 occasions, recording seven top-five
finishes and nine top-10s.
The Michigan competitor
notched seven pole positions and five victories in his storied ASA
career. He finished runner-up twice in the championship standings
initially in 1988 to Butch Miller and then in 1990 to all-time victory
leader Bob Senneker.
In Harold Fair’s return to
Anderson Speedway and the Redbud 300, he will drive for Adam Purdy,
who normally competes on the CRA Super Series in the No. 92 sponsored
Southpointe Radiator and Stainless Coolant Tubes.
Anderson Speedway and CRA
Late Model officials are coming together for the Redbud 300 that will
honor the heritage of the ASA Racing Series, founded by Rex and Becky
Robbins. Fans remember the days when ASA brought the top stars in
racing through Anderson on a yearly basis, with iconic drivers like
Rusty Wallace, Mark Martin, Dick Trickle, the late Alan Kulwicki, Bob
Senneker, Mike Eddy, Gary St. Amant and many others. Current NASCAR
Cup stars Jimmie Johnson, Kyle Busch, Mark Martin, David Stremme, and
Matt Kenseth used the Robbins led ASA to help launch their careers to
the pinnacle of racing.
