CHAMPION GARY ST. AMANT WILL RETURN TO ANDERSON FOR THE REDBUD 300
OPEN WHEEL
RACERS TYCE CARLSON AND DAKOTA ARMSTRONG WILL ALSO COMPETE

Ind. (June 4, 2009) – Anderson Speedway and CRA Super Series Late
Model officials announced today that two-time ASA National Champion
Gary St. Amant will compete in the Red Bud 300, a tribute to the
Heritage of the Old ASA Series. St. Amant joins NASCAR star Kyle Busch
among former ASA drivers that will race in the Red
Bud
300 on Tuesday, June 16. Former Indy Racing League competitor Tyce
Carlson and up and coming USAC star Dakota Armstrong will also be part
of the Red Bud 300.
Gary St. Amant, of
Columbus, Ohio, made 14 ASA starts at Anderson Speedway with a best
performance in 1997 when he earned the victory ahead of Kansas racer
Rick Beebe and short track legend Bob Senneker. St. Amant recorded
seven top-five finishes and 11 top-10 finishes in his career with ASA
at Anderson.
St. Amant earned two ASA
championships in 1998 and 2000. He finished his career with 23 event
victories.
Tyce Carlson, raced seven
seasons in the Indy Racing League from 1996-2002. He made 30 career
starts, producing
two
top-10 finishes at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in 1999 and 2000. Carlson
made two appearances in the Indianapolis 500 with a best showing of 14th
that took place in 1999. Carlson will drive a Ken Mueller prepared CRA
Late Model during the Red Bud 300.
Dakota Armstrong has scored
two high profile Midget victories in the 2007 PRI Sprint & Midget
Classic in Orland, Fla. and last year in the Midget 400 Classic at
Anderson. Armstrong, one of the top young stars of open-wheel racing
and current USAC Sprint Car Regional Point Leader, has signed with
short track development team BDI Racing, owned by SPEED broadcaster
Bob Dillner. The 17-year-old Armstrong has been turning heads in his
recent stock car starts in the NASCAR Camping World East Series and
ARCA RE/MAX Series.
Anderson Speedway and CRA
Late Model officials are coming together for the Red Bud 300 that will
honor the heritage of the old ASA series, founded by Rex and Becky
Robbins. Fans remember the days when ASA brought the top stars in
racing through Anderson on a yearly basis, with iconic drivers like
Rusty Wallace, Mark Martin, Dick Trickle, the late Alan Kulwicki, Bob
Senneker, Mike Eddy, Ted Musgrave, Johnny Benson, Gary St. Amant and
many others. Current NASCAR Cup stars Jimmie Johnson, Kyle Busch, Mark
Martin, David Stremme, and Matt Kenseth used the Robbins led ASA to
help launch their careers to the pinnacle of racing.
Advance tickets featuring
the CRA Super Series Late Models in the Red Bud 300 are on sale by
contacting the Anderson Speedway Ticket Office from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.,
Monday through Friday. Advance adult tickets are selling for $20 and
$25 on raceday. Admission will be $4 for kids.
