Association Officials Release Tentative CRA Super Series 2009 Season

Salem, IN (January 12, 2009) –
Champion Racing Association Officials released their tentative CRA
Super Series schedule for the upcoming 2009 season during their
Champion Racing Association Awards Banquet held this past Saturday in
Anderson, Indiana. The 2009 season will be the thirteenth season for
the Indiana based touring asphalt template late model series
sanctioned by Champion Racing Association. The current tentative
schedule consists of seventeen total events, fourteen CRA Super Series
point’s events, as well as three non-points events including the
Speedfest 2009 event at Lanier National Speedway, the All American 400
at the Fairgrounds in Nashville and a special to be announced event at
the end of the season.
The CRA Super Series will open its
2009 season in just a few weeks with the
5th addition of SpeedFest at Lanier National Speedway in Braselton,
Georgia, the previous four SpeedFest events were held at the
now closed USA International Speedway. The event will include the CRA
Super Series cars in a 200-lap event with a scheduled break at lap
100. The G.A.S. Pro Late Models will have a 100 lap event as part of
the program, if a driver can win both events they will collect a
$10,000 bonus.
On April 11th the CRA
Super Series will open its 2009 points season at Anderson Speedway in
Anderson, Indiana, that historic quarter mile Speedplant was the
birthplace of the series in 1997. Anderson Speedway has had a total of
45 CRA Super Series events to date. Former two time series champion
Brian Ross is the all-time series victory leader at Anderson Speedway
with nine victories.
From there the series will travel to
the legendary high banks of Winchester Speedway in Winchester, Indiana
on Sunday, April 19th, were the series will be part of that
tracks first event of it’s 2009 season with the USAC National Sprint
Car Series. The series has had 25 events to date at Winchester
Speedway, Ross and Bull Baker are tied for the most victories there
with three a piece.
The series will then travel south to
Nashville, Tennessee for a special North/South points 150 lap event on
Sunday, May 3rd, at the historic half-mile facility located
at the Fairgrounds. The series has a to be announced event scheduled
for Saturday, May 16th, more details on this event will be
released at a later date.
The series will then return to
Anderson Speedway for a first ever Tuesday night special event on June
16th. More exciting announcements on this event will be
coming soon! The series will then return to the Highbanks of Salem
Speedway on Saturday, June 27th for the Hoosier Hills 100.
A total of 21 CRA Super Series events have been contested at Salem,
since Kenny Tweedy won a 100-lap race in May of 1997, the second event
in the series inaugural season. Ross and Junior Hanley have the most
victories at Salem with four a piece.
The CRA Super Series will then be
part of the big traditional July 4th Holiday Weekend events
at Angola Motor Speedway on Saturday, July 4th. It will be
the 14th event for the CRA Super Series at Angola Motor
Speedway, Angola native Scott Hantz is the all time series win leader
at Angola with four victories driving for Richard Poe Motorsports at
what many consider his home track. Promoter Craig Everage has also
scheduled a fireworks show as part of that exciting event.
On July 12th the series
will return to Plymouth Speedway for a 200-lap event. The track has
seen a huge resurgence after being re-opened by racers Bobby Blount
and Tom Smith. The track has had several renovations including new
pavement in 2007 and concrete pit slabs. Hantz is also the series
all-time victory leader at Plymouth with three victories. The series
has had six total events to date at Plymouth.
The series will then make its only
2009 visit to the Buckeye state with a July 31st event on
the half-mile at Toledo Speedway. This will be the 11th
time the series has visited the high profile Toledo track, Canadian
legend Junior Hanley has the most series victories there with two.
On Saturday, August 8th
the series will make a return visit to the famed Berlin Raceway
located in Marne, Michigan in the series only event scheduled in that
state in 2009. Michael Blackmer is the new promoter at Berlin and has
already made several improvements to the famed facility. There will be
a special purse for this 125 lap event that will be announced at a
later date. The Campbell family has won four of the seven series
events contested at Berlin, legendary late model ace Fred Campbell has
three of those victories while his son Brian won last years event.
The series will then be back at
Winchester Speedway on Monday, September 7th for the annual Labor Day
Weekend World Stock Car Festival, an event that was a been huge
success the past three seasons. This 100-lap event has become a
traditional warm-up for the Winchester 400. The series will then
return to Nashville for a 200 lap special North/South point’s event on
September 20th. This will be the first time for this event
at that track, which is a favorite of drivers form all over the North
and the South. This event will serve as a warm-up to the prestigious
All American 400.
On Sunday, October 18th
the CRA Super Series will return to Winchester Speedway for the 38th
Annual Winchester 400. The event was brought back in 2006 and has
continued to attract a top-notch group of racers from all over the
country to compete against the best from the CRA Super Series in this
prestigious event at the historic Winchester Speedway, including
NASCAR stars Kyle Busch and David Stremme. Stremme won last season’s
memorable Winchester 400 holding off a hard-charging Kyle Bush who is
still seeking his first Winchester 400 victory. The event will be the
season point’s championship event for the CRA Super Series.
The series will once again be part of
the famed All American 400 on November 1st at the
Fairgrounds in Nashville, Tennessee. This event has continued to
attract the best late model racers from all over the nation as they
compete for another Copley Guitar Trophy and for the fame of being a
All American 400 winner. The 2009 season will then conclude with a
special 200 lap non-points event that will be announced in the near
future.
