Fourth Generation
Racer Damon Ecoff To Compete For CRA Super Series Rookie Honors
Greenfield, IN (February 23, 2009)
– Fourth Generation racer Damon Ecoff will compete for the 2009 CRA
Super Series Rookie Of The Year Award with his family owned Ecoff
Motorsports team. The 16-year-old Greenfield, Indiana native is ready
to make the jump to compete in one of the top late model touring
series in the country.
"I'm really looking forward to
running in the CRA Super Series," remarked Damon. "I consider it an
honor to be able to compete against the top late model drivers in the
country and against great racers like Kyle Busch when he races with
the series. I am looking forward to running for the Rookie of the Year
Award. I can't wait to see how much faster the CRA Super Series cars
are than the CRA Late Model Sportsman racecars. I had a lot of fun
racing in the Sportsman Series last year but I can’t wait until the
first Super Series race at Anderson in April."
Damon is the son of former CRA Super
Series competitor David Ecoff, who
was
a regular with the series from 1998 through the 2001 season. David ‘s
highlights with the CRA series include a fifth place finish in the
1999 Winchester 400 at Winchester Speedway and a fifth place finish at
the 2000 season opener at Anderson Speedway. David also competed in
other stock cars and a modified during his racing career.
Damon grew up in the country driving
tractors, trucks and heavy equipment at a young age. His racing career
started at the tender age of five years old in Full Cage Karts at
local tracks, he then moved up to Champ Karts winning many features
through out the early stages of his racing career. Damon has grown up
in a racing environment, first with his dad’s racing and then his own.
From the time he was born his weekends were spent at racetracks and
weeknights at the shop working on racing equipment.
Damon made his debut in a stock car
last season in the highly competitive Howe CRA Late Model Sportsman
Series as a 15 year old. His first race in July started off bad with a
wreck at Baer Field Speedway just after taking the green flag when
another competitor lost control of his car. After getting the car
fixed, Damon shook off his first race incident to get an 11th
place finish on Labor Day Weekend on the famous High Banks of
Winchester Speedway.
Damon really opened everyone’s eyes
at the series event at O’Reilly Raceway Park on September 20th,
when he timed in second fast in qualifying out of 26 cars, then
proceeded to get a very respectable fifth place finish at one of the
most famous short tracks in the country, in just his third time in a
stock car. Damon then returned to Winchester Speedway with back to
back top 10 finishes including a ninth in the October 10th
special non-points race and then a 10th place finish in the
October 11th Season Championship event that started 30
cars.
With Damon’s impressive early results
in the Sportsman Series, the decision was made to move him up to the
CRA Super Series late models for the 2009 season. Damon will compete
full time with the series for the Rookie of the Year Award and for
season championship points beginning with the series season opener on
April 11th at Anderson Speedway. Damon will also compete in
selected Howe CRA Late Model Sportsman Series events when the two
series are racing together at the same track and CRA Super Series off
weekends. Damon could also compete in some selected ASA Midwest Series
events. Damon will use a Hamke Chassis with power by Hamner Racing
Engines.
