CRA Super Series Set
to Open 2009 Season Saturday at Anderson Speedway
Salem, IN (April 7, 2009) –
The CRA Super Series is set to open its 2009 racing season in the
Anderson 125 Presented By Great Deals at Anderson Speedway this
Saturday, April 11th. The famous high-banked quarter mile
racetrack located in Anderson, Indiana has hosted more
CRA
Super Series events than any other track since the series first ever
event on Saturday, April 26, 1997. Anderson Speedway has hosted a
total of 44 CRA Super Series events to date. Former two time series
champion Brian Ross is the all-time series victory leader at Anderson
Speedway with nine victories.
2008 series Champion Scott Hantz tops
a strong list of drivers entered for this Saturday’s race. 2008 was a
great season for
Hantz,
it was his third series Championship, breaking the record for most
series Championships he held with Ross. Hantz also broke Ross’s all
time series win record during the 2008 season, Hantz now has 23 series
wins to Ross’s 22. Hantz’s record victory came at Anderson Speedway in
the rain-shortened Anderson 300 in August. Hantz will be going for his
fourth
Championship
in 2009 with hopes of becoming the first ever driver to win
back-to-back Championships.
Two other former series Champions are
entered for Saturday’s event including 1997 Champion Kenny Tweedy and
1998 Champion Brian Rievley. Tweedy begins his second season racing
for long time series car owner Ken Muller and his Muller Motorsports
Team. Rievley will be competing in a car owned by his father Bill, one
of the most respected late model crew chiefs in the Midwest. Tweedy is
second in series all time wins at Anderson Speedway with four while
Rievley has been to victory lane with the series at Anderson Speedway
one time and was the 1997 Anderson Speedway Late Model Champion.
Series veterans
Rick Turner and Jeff Lane are both entered, both drivers have two
series victories at Anderson Speedway, Turner won the Great Deals 125
last season after it was rescheduled to June because of weather. Other
former Anderson winners entered include former ASA Racing Series
competitor Jack Landis, Midwest late model veteran Eddie Hoffman and
2007 series Rookie Of The Year John VanDoorn in his debut for the Kaos
Motorsports Team.
Boris Jurkovic, a two-time series
winner in 2008 has filed an entry, the Illinois native
is always a threat to win when he comes to a race. 2008 series Rookie
Of The Year Aaron Pierce is entered. The Muncie native will drive for
a team owned by his father Sam Pierce in 2009 and will have Bill
Rievley turning the wrenches. Series veteran competitors John Heck,
Jason Dietsch, Robert Maynor, Terry Fisher Jr., Jason Shively, JR
Roahrig and Adam Purdy have all filed entries for Saturday night’s
race.
The CRA Super Series has a very
impressive rookie class campaigning for the 2009 K & N Filters Rookie
Of The Year Award that will begin with Saturdays race. Rookie Nick Lay
competed at the beginning of last season with the Howe CRA Late Model
Sportsman Series before finishing the season with some limited starts
with the CRA Super Series including a 15th place finish in
the Anderson 300. Rookie Brandon Fagin also ran a limited series
schedule in 2008 including a 12th place finish in the Great
Deals 125 at Anderson in June. Both will begin their quest for the
rookie award on Saturday.
Rookie competitor Tyler Roahrig, son
of series veteran JR Roahrig, ran a couple of series shows in 2008 and
will be competing for Rookie honors in 2009. Zach Hulvey, a part-time
Sportsman series competitor will also run for Rookie honors for
veteran series car owner Floyd Fehl. Hulvey has made selected starts
for Fehl is past series events. Rookie Damon Ecoff, son of former
series competitor David Ecoff, will make his series debut Saturday
along with fellow Rookie competitor Justin Matson.
Other drivers entered
for Saturday’s event include Blake Hillard from Owensboro, Kentucky
who will make his first ever start at Anderson Speedway. Also entered
are Royce Mason II, son of former series competitor Royce Mason and
Joe O’Connor who has raced with the series at past events at Illiana
Motor Speedway.
There will be an open
practice on Friday, April 10th, pits open at 3pm, practice
will go from 4 until 7pm. Pits will open on Saturday, April 11th
at 12noon, practice will be from 3 to 4pm, qualifying will be at
5:30pm, the race program will begin at 7pm and will include the
Anderson 125 Presented By Great Deals for the CRA Super Series. For
