Winchester Speedway And CRA Announce Special Races and Bonuses for Support Divisions on Winchester 400 Weekend

Winchester, IN (September 9, 2008) – Officials from Champion Racing Association (CRA) and Winchester Speedway have announced special races and bonus programs for area short track racers that want to be a part of the legendary Winchester 400 Weekend, October 10, 11, 12. Supporting the stars of the CRA Super Series in the Winchester 400 featuring NASCAR Cup Stars Kyle Busch and David Stremme will be: the Howe/CRA Sportsman, CRA Street Stocks, Vore’s/CRA F.W.D. Compacts and Open Wheel Modifieds.

There will be non-points, special events for the Sportsman and Street Stocks on Friday Night, October 10th, along with a season championship event for the F.W.D. Compacts. Saturday will see the top Open Wheel Modified stars from the USA and AMS Modified series battle for bragging rights in the "Run for the Gun 50". Season championship races for the Howe/CRA Sportsman and CRA Street Stocks will also be featured on the slate of activities for Saturday. The highlight of Saturday’s events will be Pole qualifying for the CRA Super Series Late Models for the 37th Annual Winchester 400 presented by Ed Martin Auto Group and Renegade.

On Friday night, the Sportsman teams will be divided into two groups for a "New Star" Feature and an "All-Star" Dash for Cash. The 25-Lap "New Star" feature is open to all Sportsman cars/drivers that have not finished in the top 5 at Winchester in 2008 or won a feature at Winchester in 2007. New teams are welcome as well, that have true, sportsman-type drivers. The payout for this event will be: $500-300-200-175-160-150-140-130-120-110-100-90-80-75 on out.

All Sportsman teams that are not eligible for the "New Star" Feature will run in a 15 Lap "All-Star" Dash for Cash. Starters will draw for starting position and the race pays: $150-100-75-50-25 on out. There are no entry fees for Friday's events.

In Saturday’s Season Championship Feature for the Howe/CRA Sportsman, a "First Timer’s Bonus" program will be paid to the top three finisher who are making their first start at Winchester Speedway in 2008 (Friday’s activities excluded). The bonuses are paid on top of the position payoff they earn, and will be $100, $50, $30.

For the CRA Street Stocks, similar events and bonuses are scheduled. On Friday night, the Street Stock teams will be divided into two groups for a "New Star" Feature and an "All-Star" Dash for Cash. The 25-Lap "New Star" feature is open to all Street Stock cars/drivers that have not finished in the top 5 at Winchester in 2008 or won a feature at Winchester in 2007. New teams are welcome as well. The payout for this event will be: $300-200-175-160-150-140-130-120-110-100-90-80-70-60-50 on out.

All Street Stock teams not eligible for the "New Star" Feature may run in a 15 Lap "All-Star" Dash for Cash. Starters will draw for starting position and the race pays: $100-75-50-25 on out. There are no entry fees for Friday's events.

2008 "First Timer’s" in the Vore’s/CRA F.W.D. Compact and the Open Wheel Modifieds will also be eligible for bonus monies on top of their position purse that pays the top three 2008 "First Timers" $50, $35, $25 in the Compacts and $150, 100, $50 in the Modifieds

The incredible weekend of action culminates in the running of the 37th annual Winchester 400 Presented by Ed Martin Auto Group and Renegade on Sunday, October 12th. The top short track drivers in the country will battle NASCAR Cup Super Stars Kyle Busch and David Stremme in a legendary 400-lap battle where list of previous winners reads like a who’s who of racing: legends of racing including Mark Martin, Rusty Wallace, Ted Musgrave, Mike Eddy, and Bob Senneker, plus short track racing hero’s including Butch Miller, Gary St. Amant, Brian Ross and Scott Hantz. Drivers all across the country want to add their name to this prestigious list of winners. It’s easy to see why reserved seat tickets are moving very quickly and officials expect a record crowd for the event.
