Hantz Wins Scott
Performance Wire Four State Challenge
Salem, IN (October 23, 2008) –
The final round of The Scott Performance Wire Four State Challenge, an
award program based upon four selected CRA Super Series points events
in the four states the series had points events in 2008, took place
last Saturday in the Boyne At Berlin 125 at Berlin Raceway, located in
Marne, Michigan. 2008 CRA Super Series Champion Scott Hantz came into
that event trailing Rick Turner by six points in the Scott Performance
Wire Four State Challenge. Hantz’s second place finish in the event to
winner Brian Campbell, combined with Turner’s 11th place
finish gave Hantz the 2008
Scott
Performance Wire Four State Challenge title by 18 points over Turner.
The Scott Performance Wire Four State
Challenge began with the Hoosier Hills 100 at Salem Speedway in Salem,
Indiana on June 7th, were Rick Turner emerged as the point
leader after finishing fourth in that event as well as being the
Appleton Rack & Pinion Fast Qualifier. Turner continued to lead after
the second Scott Performance Wire Four State Challenge event at the
Music City Motorplex in Nashville, Tennessee on July 20th
were Turner finished third. Turner kept the lead after being the
Appleton Rack & Pinion Fast Qualifier and got a eighth place finish in
the third round on August 1 in the Crown On-line 100 at Toledo
Speedway, located in Toledo, Ohio.
Hantz secured five qualifying points
at Berlin by being the fourth fastest qualifier, Turner failed to
scored any qualifying points, as he had in the previous events. Turner
was lucky just to be able to race in the Berlin event after his car
suffered heavy damage in the Winchester 400 the week prior. ASA Late
Model Challenge Series Champion Peter Cozzolino, a former CRA
competitor, contacted Turner and offered Turner his car to compete
with in the event. Turner had limited practice with the car and then
spun in oil early in the event causing a caution placing him at the
tail of the field. Turner fought back to get his 11th place
finish. Turner also finished second in series Championship points to
Hantz.
K & N Filters Rookie Of The Year
points runner-up Zach Taylor finished third in Scott Performance Wire
Four State Challenge points, nineteen points behind his teammate
Turner. John VanDoorn, last year’s winner of the Scott Performance
Wire Four State Challenge, finished in fourth with K & N Filters
Rookie Of The Year Aaron Pierce in fifth place.
